How to Save Money at Baldy View Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Emotions run high when you have a sick pet at home. It’s the worst feeling. All you want is for them to get better. They are your family. You’ll do just about anything for them. Mango, my daughter's leopard gecko has been recovering for over a month now from Mouth Rot. We are so grateful we found Dr. Levoy, an exotic animal vet. His staff is warm and friendly and have gone out of their way to help and explain all the details of Mango's treatment plan. A special thanks to Nelly, Chris, and Jackie for all their help. They have accommodated appointments to work with my schedule. Mango is on the mend now. The care he has received at Baldy View Animal Hospital has been excellent. We are thankful we found a great doctor and Vet Techs to care for our pets. 😊

I *LOVE* Baldy View!!!! They are amazing; from the care to the cost to the customer service. All of the vet techs are super knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions on the phone for me. I have 7 rats and 3 of them have chronic illnesses so I'm at Baldy View a lot, and I feel like I've gotten to know everyone there really well and that they genuinely care about my pets. They're super reasonable price wise, especially for a vet that works with exotics, and have helped my babies get well and stay well. I'd highly recommend Baldy View to anyone and everyone with pets. They're awesome!!!

Dr. Lavoy and his staff are nothing short of amazing! I searched far and wide for an Avian Vet that was able to see my new baby Conures on short notice and I literally called over 10 vets before finding Dr Lavoy… his staff are very friendly and welcoming. They were able to get me in the very next day which I greatly appreciated due to my little ones having some breathing issues that I was very concerned about. Dr. Lavoy spent quite a bit of time with both of them looking them over and listening to their lungs and he did hear congestion in them balls. Originally I only heard congestion in my little guy but I brought my little girl as a wellness check in just in case so I was really glad that I brought her to. He put them both on antibiotics to clear up any type of infection that they might have. Thankfully it wasn’t serious and they are both doing well at this time. He also gave me tons of advice as well as some great recommendations of much healthier foods to try for them. I am so thankful that I found Baldy View Animal Hospital, Dr Lavoy and his staff truly are so caring about your pets health & I highly recommend! I drive an hour and a half to bring my little birdies here and I would drive five hours if necessary ❤️

My first time visit with my bunny. The gal who answered the phone was very understanding and accommodating. When we went in for our appointment, the gal behind the counter was great. Dr Bobeck was the vet that we saw and he was very warm and caring. We had to euthanize my little guy so it was a very heartbreaking time for me. I appreciated so much the way I was treated by the vet and the staff, especially Nicole. I highly recommend them for your animal friends. A few days later, I received a beautiful sympathy card from them. Very nice of them to think of my family that way.
