How to Save Money at Madison Avenue Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First time at this hospital. Dr Brick was nice and confirmed my "Dos" is a male. I thought a female. The receptionist that scheduled my appointment was pretty funny which I appreciate. They do take a $50 down payment when scheduling, not a problem for me. The best, was actually the tech that came in first. I wish I knew her name. She was sweet and gave educational papers not only for my python but also on my beardie. She was very helpful and gave great information on care.

Madison Avenue Veterinary Clinic will be our forever clinic. I called to schedule an appointment for my bunny Harper. They were booked a month out and so were all the other clinics around. When I got there for the initial check up and RHD vaccine, the employees were very welcoming! I want to give a big thank you to Justine for handling Harper so well during our initial exam. Thank you Dr. Brick for the awesome advice on how to clean her ears, burrito wrap her, and simple care. During the exam, I was able to schedule Harper’s spay which they had an opening 2 weeks later. I was even able to bring her in for an earlier date! (Thank you Greg? I think that’s his name.) Drop off the night before surgery day to help her get used to her area. Surgery was scheduled for the morning. I received a call in the afternoon with the best news that Harper did great and I would be able to pick her up later. Pick up was fairly easy. They brought Harper to me and gave me details on how to give pain meds and a review on her surgery site. Dr. Brick did an amazing job! Afterwards, I checked Harper out and here we are now. Post-op update: Harper is doing great. She’s nibbling on some hay and took the pain meds well. I might have to feed her some critical care but I’m hoping that she eats more since she hates it. I cannot thank you enough Madison Avenue Vet Clinic! I was freaking out pre-op because I kept seeing so many posts about bunnies not making it during spay/neuter but you assured me that everything would go well. Thank you! Truly the best vet clinic to take your exotic pets!

Dr. Brick is the main vet at this clinic. She is a straight shooter. Doesn't order a bunch of unnecessary tests. She is sharp as a tack when it comes to honing in on your animal's issues, especially if you have exotic or unique pets. She is booked out about 6 weeks most of the time. Her staff is awesome as well. Everything is clean and neat as a pin at the clinic. I drive 30 miles one way to take my animals to her. She is that good.

Such great staff. Knowledgeable and very helpful. The fact that they see exotic pets is a plus. Took me a long time to find a clinic that would see my snake. They answered all of my questions, and helped me understand how best to take care of my new pet. 100% recommend for exotic pet owners.

Took our bearded dragon in because he is sick. They are very informative and caring. We now have our bearded dragon on certain foods and nutrients hand fed to him along with 10 minute bath time. I took it upon myself to do physical therapy on him because he wasn't using his legs. Only time will tell if he gets better.
