How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Veterinary Behavior Specialists

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Dr. Stepita is saving lives, one pet at a time. My dog had serious behavior issues that were so bad I did not know how we were going to fix them. He was a stray on the street who obviously went through some traumatic experiences. After 1 year of visits with Dr. Stepita, his behavior issues are well under control and my dog and our family are all much happier. Yes, Dr. Stepita requires that you pay in advance. This is because she has a very busy practice with a waiting list. Her time and expertise as a veterinary specialist are definitely worth the cost of pre-payment. The fees she charges, in my opinion, are well worth it for peace in our household and on our dog walks. You'll get the most from her if you show up with notes about what is going on with your pet, read the treatment plan she gives you afterwards, and work on that treatment plan every single day. We work with our dog on his issues throughout the day and he has shown great improvement. The behavior changes come about very slowly with a lot of work but they do happen.

Excellent care for our precious pup. The final bill was under estimate so that was a great surprise. Very friendly staff.

Unconscionable appointment policy. You can't get an appointment for months, but have to place a very high non-refundable deposit ($450) for that appointment far ahead of time to reserve your slot. If the problem is acute, chances are you will look for another, more immediate solution so you lose the deposit. They make good money off of providing no service!
