I came here on a whim looking for a potential dog since it will be a year since our 13 year old went to dog heaven, and it was only a few minutes Uber ride where I was getting our car serviced. This SPCA in Dublin looks fairly new. It was clean. Way cool I was able to walk-in to see the dogs and cats during their open hours from Wednesday through Sunday (I came on a Saturday) and I’m guessing during my visit, most dogs were adopted (which was fantastic) since they had very few selections. There were a good number of kittens and cats however. The little tabby kitten was adorable. I even got a chance to chat with a cat volunteer who was a feline expert. In this facility, they have play areas for kids, a meet and greet rooms including an outdoor play area where you can bond with your potential furry new family member. Some geriatric dogs were available for free adoption. There were limited staff during my visit but I came during lunch hour. While I didn’t see a potential dog during my visit, I did manage to say hello to a cutie dog in the play room where a previous family decided not to adopt him. Sweet puppy dog with high energy and will be an amazing family member who has an active lifestyle. All in all, it was nice way to spend the afternoon with extra love from the furry friends. Cheers!

My partner and I recently adopted our first cat from this animal shelter and had a wonderful experience. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and they went above and beyond to make sure that our cat, Ty (now affectionately known as Big Mac), was comfortable and well taken care of. They did a lot of work to ensure that we could quickly become experts in being cat parents. They gave us tons of literature to read about how to care for a cat, including how to find out his microchip details. They answered every question we had. The shelter had a wall full of cat and dog toys and treats that had been donated, and we were allowed to take some with us to kick start our cat care journey. They said we could call any time if we had questions. They also have a lifetime return guarantee, so if things don’t work out with your pet, they end up at SPCA instead of on the streets. They also helped us be prepared for taking care of our cat specifically. When we first met Ty, he was super cuddly and friendly with us. He walked up to us and we immediately fell in love. While we had a positive experience with him, the staff warned us that when he first arrived at the shelter, he was very anxious about the new environment, he wouldn't let anybody pet him, and he wasn't eating very much. They explained to us that it's important for cats to eat every day, otherwise their organs can shut down. To help him adjust to our home, they provided us with anti-anxiety medication and an appetite stimulant for cats. They even gave us a little bit of his favorite foods to ensure that he would eat. I was impressed that even though telling us about Ty's behavioral concerns might make us not want to adopt him, they chose to share the nitty gritty details with us so we could make an informed choice. Even though Ty was anxious and unapproachable at the shelter before we met him, he had no problem adjusting to our home at all -- he ended up not needing the appetite stimulant or anti-anxiety medication. We were so glad to have been fully prepared to take care of Ty, and feel confident that we can provide a wonderful home to him with the support provided by SPCA. This shelter turned a scared cat into a lovable, confident boy. I also want to address some negative reviews that mention the shelter not picking up the phone. While we cannot speak to that experience, we found the shelter to be very responsive via email. Additionally, the shelter shares a phone line with their Oakland location, and they were happy to transfer us to the Dublin location when we asked. Overall, we highly recommend this animal shelter to anyone looking to adopt a pet. The staff is caring, knowledgeable, and truly invested in the well-being of their animals.

People who really love dogs should choose adoption instead of buying and selling!! They need you to give them a home sweet home🏡

I'm quite upset with the staff at this facility. They seemed great at first. I took my elderly father there to adopt a dog. They sold us a 5-year-old pitbull as a sweet, mellow, well adjusted girl, and she definitely was when we met her and spent time with her at the facility before deciding to take her home. They handed us anti-anxiety medications on our way out the door, saying she needed to be weaned off of them, with no further explanation. Of course because of the new environment, she wouldn't eat dinner, so she didn't get the meds. The next morning she bit my father, drawing blood. Also extremely aggressive with other dogs and difficult to control. Absolutely inappropriate to expect that an 80-year-old man would be able to handle her. Shame on them. If you're going to adopt here, ask lots of questions, and don't let them pull the wool over your eyes.
