How to Save Money at The Spay Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Go to this clinic if your fur babies need care‼️ All the technicians and staff made me feel so safe bringing my dog in for her spade surgery. They did a great job, made sure my girl got top notch treatment and were super accommodating to me and rambunctious dog. The women who work there are so kind to the animals i’ll definitely be coming back if i ever need to. Highly suggest these women working here please support them with your business! My doggy says thanks again🤍

I used to love this clinic. The pricing was very competitive and they were typically able to provide appointment times with 24-72 hours of calling. Recently, I've notice the pricing has increased especially for exams where I'm paying over $100 instead of the previous $85-90 while some other top vets are charging even less - $75 in some cases for minor exams. Not to mention, it can take 2-3 weeks to get an appointment unless you want to drop your pet off and pick them up after the exam whenever that is (not an option for my easily stressed cat). The front staff and the vets are really friendly and knowledgeable, but I'm not sure what the point of having them as a regular vet would be if I have to take my pet to a different clinic half the time because the schedule appointments are days/weeks out. Not to mention, during my last visit I had to wait in the exam room 30 minutes past the scheduled appointment time for the doctor, and they didn't even apologize for the wait.

This vet office has gone way downhill in the last couple of years. Our experience started off really well with Dr. McMillan, but she has since left this practice with no notice to her patients. We have been going in circles with our dog's allergies, and have spent thousands of dollars at this clinic. We were only just now referred to a canine allergy specialist after years of countless tests and appointments and rounds of medications, and the same conversation with the vet over and over. The front desk is always so busy, and the employees just cannot seem to answer any questions. There seems to be little to no communication between staff. Whenever you call, you ALWAYS have to wait on hold (sometimes they forget about you on hold). I understand that it's a business and they have lots of clients, but maybe that's a sign you need more staff or should start taking on less patients. They frequently forget to call when prescriptions are ready for pickup, and the customer service is completely gone. I also asked for a copy of my dog's prescription so I could purchase his medication elsewhere, and was denied that. If you are looking for a vet clinic, I would stay away from this one. While I don't think the vets themselves are terrible, I just think the way the clinic is run as a whole is inefficient and frustrating as a customer. Yes, their prices are a bit lower than most clinics, but they will make you pay more in the long run.

Dr. Charles West and his team were both incredible AND affordable. I had been to another vet previously who told me they were unable to do all three procedures that I inquired about on the same day, that I would need to put my dog under anaesthesia twice. It felt a little gimmicky to me $$$. I went to Dr. West for a second opinion, him and his team gave me the option of doing all three procedures in one day and their rates were much better than the other place I had gone to saving me hundreds. He seems like he’s in it because of his love for animals. He’s a caring and compassionate doctor first and then a business man, not the other way around. I was pretty adamant after meeting him that I wanted my dog to have her cherry eye procedure done with him, so he took the time to see where he could fit her in as soon as possible and I was beyond grateful. I took a few business cards and I’ll be sharing them with all my colleagues and friends!

I brought my kitten in for a spay. From the start the staff were super kind and made me feel very comfortable. Prices are very fair and the wait is worth it. They're so good my kitten is acting like she didn't just have surgery. Incision is barely noticeable and the detailed aftercare instructions are fantastic. They answered all my questions and overall I am extremely pleased with this clinic. My mother had two of her cats spayed by them over 30 years ago. They came recommended to me by her, so clearly their standards of care are held in high regard. Thank you to the care team who took care of my little Kiyora today! You guys rock!
