How to Save Money at MacTaggart Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Took our kitten here, and it was Luna's first visit to vet clinic and we were so nervous, but it was all so smooth. Dr.Foster is really amazing at his work, his experience definitely reflects on his ability to make everything so much at ease for the pet as well as the pet parent. Luna had her first shot and she didn't even know it. Dr. Foster was so good to explain us in such simple way and so glad we chose to visit here. All the staff is very friendly and approachable for any queries no matter how trivial.

Profoundly moronic staff. DO NOT take the pets here! Called a week in advance to book a full groom/shave for a friend’s cat, explaining that the once-feral nature of this feline did not seem to equip it with self-grooming skills and that the creature was in distress with knots and uncleanliness. Of course, like all vets, there is always “something” auxiliary - anything to gouge - and quoted me a price of well over $500.00 for an exam, boosters and full shave w/ sedation. Took the Saturday off only to get there and for the shockingly clueless vet-tech behind the counter to explain that everything BUT the groom had been booked (although sedation was still on the docket, the morons) and that there was no time for a groom at all until the following week. Aside from the massive inconvenience, the staff seem abjectly ignorant, and the whole interaction with them did not provide me with even the slightest sense of ability or confidence at all; so much so that despite the failure to book the groom, I refused the exam and vaccinations as I would NOT leave my, or my friend’s, animals with MacTaggart Veterinary Clinic

Dr. Foster, without exaggeration, is one of the nicest people in the world. He’s been our family vet for years and has never been anything other than kind, informative and honest. We had a scare with one of pets earlier this week and they fit us in within 20 minutes of us calling. Dr. Foster immediately settled our nerves and gave us a practical action plan. I honestly can’t recommend him and this clinic enough!

Dr. Foster was very gentle with my dog, but I felt kind of rushed during the appointment. He didn’t tell me what he was giving my dog, he also didn’t stick around after administering the vaccines. Dr. Collis is the real reason for the low rating. She made subtle but rude comments. Again, she didn’t tell me what she was about to give my dog. I had to stop her and ask, and good thing I did because she was about to give him something I didn’t approve of. This seems to be a common practice at this clinic where they just vaccinate your dog without prior discussion. Dr. Collis also scared me into thinking something was seriously wrong with my dog. I went to two different vets for second and third opinions and they both said not to worry about it. Safe to say I won’t be back. It’s not a terrible clinic overall. If you decide to bring your dog here, I would still recommend Dr. Foster, and certainly not Collis.
