How to Save Money at Companion Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.
How Do You Choose the Right Pet Insurance Provider?
Pet Insurance Review makes it incredibly easy for pet parents to select an insurance provider they feel good about. You can use our handy comparison tool to get the gist of what a company offers. Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Dr Amy is one of the best Vets I have ever met. Her compassion and passion for her patients and their family is unmatched. There’s no denying how excited my little Betsy girl gets to see everyone in the clinic and how trusting she is to be in the care of the vets and vet techs at Companion. We are so happy with the care we receive here ❤️

I can't say enough great things about this clinic, every visit with my dogs has been a positive experience! They prioritize the well-being of their patients, including those who are fearful or uncomfortable with handling and vet care. The staff can read dog body language well, adjusting their approach to ensure my dogs feel safe and secure. I really appreciate their efforts to check that the waiting area clear when we come/go, which helps my pup who is fearful of strangers. Their understanding of both health and behavior makes what could be a stressful situation so much easier! We see Dr. Amy, she has been thorough and attentive, listens to my concerns and never makes me feel like I am being “too much” for asking questions. I appreciate the time she takes with us and her treatment recommendations have greatly improved my dogs' wellness and daily care. In addition to vet visits, we've participated in training classes (online and in person) and private fear-free sessions, all of which have been game-changers. The qualified trainers and positive reinforcement methods have helped build my dog's confidence in many different situations. Special thanks to Janna, Christy, and Jessica for your support! I love that this is an independently owned, family-run clinic. Its clear that the Benoits are committed to providing the highest level of care, while setting a standard of compassion and fear-free practices for their clients and the community. The service and attention we've received has exceeded my expectations on every level. I highly recommend their services and wish all pets could experience the same level of care, consideration, and support in their veterinary treatments. Thank you to the Companion team for everything you do! We woof you- Alecia, Lala & Dale

We were referred to Companion Vet Clinic after two consecutive poor experiences at a nearby clinic in the Southeast area of Edmonton. Right away, Companion was professional, personable, and welcoming. Although it is nowhere near where we live, it is well worth the drive and time to get there. We were booked with Dr. Benoit and wow is he patient, kind, and incredibly good with our dog. Somehow, he finds a way to keep her calm and can easily administer eye drops or perform a quick scan. He can complete tasks that would usually be difficult given her energy and attention span. Dr. Benoit answers all of our questions without any judgment and is super patient as we are new parents to our dog and have lots of questions. Overall, our experience has been 12/10, and we are so grateful to have found this clinic and Dr. Benoit. HIGHLY, Highly, highly recommend.

I switched to this clinic because my dog was so nervous of the vet, which stressed me out, which stressed him out even more! I dreaded vet appointments. This clinic is amazing. All of the staff I’ve spoken with are so kind and really willing to take time to help. My dog has seen Dr. Amy, she was so lovely to both of us. My dog has pancreatitis and she took time to talk to me and answer all of my questions. Previously I’d felt that vets in other clinics were dismissive of my questions and concerns. She helped to put my mind at ease. My dog was so nervous he wouldn’t let her do an exam. She suggested cooperative care training. We’ve done 5 sessions so far with Janna. I’m so impressed with this program. We went from me having to carry my dog into the clinic because he was afraid to him running into the clinic on his own, happy to see his new friend. Janna has been so supportive. She has a really nice way with my dog (and me)! I’d highly recommend this training if your dog is nervous of the vet, it is well worth the cost. Overall I am so impressed with this vet clinic. It has resulted in some really profound changes for my dog, I am so grateful I found them!

During our visit here, Dr Benoit was thorough and detailed during the examination of my puppy. He was very knowledgeable and spent a great deal of time explaining his condition & answering any questions. The vet technicians and reception staff were also friendly. Thank you, Companion Vet team! :)
