How to Save Money at CityVet | Kallison Ranch

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was my first visit to this vet clinic and I highly recommend! I'll be bringing my other cats here. Dr. Gaines and his staff are phenomenal. From the ladies at the front desk to the medical staff, everyone is super friendly and welcoming. And the prices were competitive considering most vet clinics charge similar rates (in my experience at least). I also appreciate that Dr. Gaines looked to address all problems with my cat to see what is the root of the problem. His depth of knowledge makes me feel confident in his medical judgment and care of my cat.

Brought our dog Lahti in after she ingested 16 times the lethal dose of dark chocolate. They induced vomiting and quickly determined she needed care beyond what they were equipped for and recommended Mission Vet. This decision and initial measures taken contributed to saving her life! Thank you for you competent and professional response! She beat the odds and survived!

City Vet | Kallison Ranch is the best everybody? There is so friendly and professional. Even when taking care of my obnoxiously excitable Belgian Malinois Mazzy Star. For a place that has animals in and out all day, that place is spotless. They make everything as convenient as possible. To notify about your visits, upcoming by email. We started going there because my brother takes his 2 dogs there and even though brothers don't usually always agree, he was right. That place is the best! (Don't tell him I said that though)🤭

Dr Gaines an his staff are so great! They show compassion an concern for all pets. He has been our Vet for 16 years an we love our Shih Tzu’s Noe, Lea (RIP) Jaxx, Tiny, Oreo (RIP) an our newest member of the bunch Solene our gatito💕 Dr Gaines earned our trust when he saved Lea from parvo many years ago she lived 16 years because of Dr Gaines we cherish all our memories for sure! Without Dr Gaines we wouldn’t have our wonderful memories with our pets that we love so much. His staff is super sweet an professional. If you haven’t been to this clinic I advise you to definitely try Dr Gaines an his staff for your pets sake. I kno my pets enjoy them an that makes us happy🐶🐶🐶🐶😸

Today I took my dogs for their annual vaccinations. They received them without any problems. However, they didn't provide them with their complete vaccination plan. From the moment you arrive, they try to sell you other things you didn't ask for. It's very sad and very poor professional ethics to place more emphasis on selling medical procedures than on actually caring for and being more attentive to the animals. Dr. Naranjo only saw you for two minutes during the entire process while you were at the clinic. I didn't trust her for any reason. They took the dogs to the back of the clinic to take their temperature and do blood tests, but you never actually see them do them. The costs are out of range, too high, to choose this clinic as your trusted place for your pets. It's not worth it if there aren't doctors who are friendly with animals or people, and they place more importance on their administrative processes and are more concerned with giving you quotes for services. The truth is, they're losing their essence as pet doctors.
