How to Save Money at Edwards Veterinary Professional Corp

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have nothing but great things to say about Edwards. Although they were not our Vet, they took us in; in an emergency situation and saw my Lacey Girl. Dr. Sharon is the MOST compassionate and kindest doctor I have ever had the privilege of dealing with. She was so gentle and loving and wanted the best for my girl, I could tell she was sincere and felt the pain and sadness we were feeling. Despite my girls age we were hopeful she would make a recovery, however we had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye. I would also like to add that I had to pick up some medication a few days after our initial visit and had the pleasure of dealing with Dr. Edwards, he too was also very kind and spoke to me in a private room about Lacey and the coming days and what to expect or have to decide. What I really liked was that although he wasn’t the initial doctor who took care of us, he took the time to read up on Lacey’s file and get an understanding of what she was going through. He too was gracious, kind and very compassionate. The day we brought her in Dr. Sharon spent time with us answering some of our questions and helped us with our decision to let her go. Dr. Sharon was so soft spoken, and gentle with my Lacey girl, her kindness did not go unnoticed, despite our hearts being broken and our tear stained faces she was so compassionate and understanding of our feelings and our heart break. The only feedback I would give would be to have the clients pay the invoice before anything happens, maybe even before clients go into the room. I know I really wanted to remain present with my girl and not have to worry about the payment piece and unfortunately, I was interrupted right before the doctor came in. I understand clients need to pay for their bill, but maybe there is another way to handle that piece of it. Maybe one day our hearts will be open to another dog, and we will have the pleasure of working with you again, for now our hearts need to heal. Thank you for caring for Lacey even if it was for a short time

We have three dogs registered here and all three love to go to the vet. They are friendly, kind and patient. All staff are part of the welcoming atmosphere. Dr. Edwards and Dr. Howard are knowledgeable, supportive and honest about treatment options. Our family feels heard by the vets and vet techs. They are thorough and care about their patients and their families. We find their prices reasonable for the service we have received. :)

I Have nothing good to say about this clinic. I had a beautiful white Shepard and took him there and cost me 900.00 dollars just to look at him to see what is wrong with him. He past away and had to put him to sleep. I could of saved his life if they would of not been so expensive, because 900.00 just for one visit was too much for me to afford. He was my best friend and miss him dearly. If I would of had better service and reasonable rates I could of saved his life. I think they only care about money and not animals.

We took our dog to this clinic for years and it used to be a great place. Not sure what happened behind the scenes from 2020 until last June 2023, but we clearly saw a significant turnover in terms of staff and the level of care and attention to the health needs of our dog provided. Seemed like the visits became all about the $$$$$ and the amazing vets who used to work at this clinic left. We now take our dog to the Paris Vet Clinic with absolutely no regrets.

Edward’s Vet is amazing and so incredibly helpful and kind and has treated our Izzy with the upmost care, even when moving and having to unfortunately go to a new vet, they are still SO helpful and caring and I couldn’t ask for a better experience :)
