How to Save Money at Yorkwood Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I moved to Keswick so I thought ok let’s bring my animals to a vet close by . Bad idea 😂. Started with my daughter cat just to test the new place , the cat had issues , very sick with what seemed to be bladder infection . Did a consultation ,blood work and 2 urine tests , antibiotic ( first line , they didn’t bother to send sample to the lab to see what bacteria is causing )ended up with 640 $ bill and cat almost died during next week . I asked for pain management bc she was in soooo much pain they wanted me to do appointment so I get hit with another $$$ bill . But if I had to spend another penny it would be well spend at Emerge where at least they have ultrasound , send samples out and give pain management .It’s not how much the bill is but what you get done for that amount. Anyway this place did not work for me , what bothered me was that a sample was not sent out to lab and I didn’t get pain management . I have to say in their defence that with two owners (me and my daughter) communication is harder .

I just recused a dog that went to their vet clinic with the shelter. He was looked at around a month ago by them. I just needed to get him the missing vaccines that are not done ( kennel couch). The need to charge me a exam fee to give him a vaccine... I was hoping to keep him here but I guess he's moving because I feel like that's a money grab

IF .... I could give a MINUS 100, I ABSOLUTELY WOULD AND SHOULD! These people act so nice and understanding and caring. But it's ALL money! If you are totally rich, go there and make them rich! I MOVED HERE TO KESWICK 4 MONTHS AGO, AND MY DOG HAS HAD THE EXACT SAME 💯 PROBLEM SINCE THE VERY FIRST TIME I TOOK HER TO THESE INCOMPETENT PEOPLE. THE PROBLEM IS SO SO SO MUCH WORSE AFTER LAST VISIT FOR SAME ISSUE AND THEY MILKED HER ANAL GLANDS!? 230 DOLLARS, FIRST TIME, SAME ISSUE, THEY CHARGED ALMOST 3000$$$$$$ FOR HER TO HAVE HER UTERUS AND SAY HAD PUSS. SO A MAJOR SURGERY. NOTHING CHANGED BUT WHILE ON ANTIBIOTICS. TEMPORARILY. I LOVE MY DOG SO MUCH I CANT LIVE WITHOUT HER. REALLY. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME, AND NO POSITIVE RESULTS, AND SO SO MUCH MONEY LATER AFTER TRYING TO BE LOYAL TO ONE VET, AND THEIR RESPONSE TO MY EMAIL REGARDING THIS, ALL THIS, THEY TELL ME I OWE THEM!!! FOR A CANCELLED APPOINTMENT PLUS AND APPOINTMENT THAT I TOLD THE LADY ON PHONE I AM BROKE AND HAVE NO RIDE, AND PROBABLY CANT DO IT. SHE SAID NICELY AND KIND AS THEY SEEM TO BE, THAT SHE WOULD JUST LEAVE THE TIME SLOT OPEN, IN CASE I CAN.

After 4 years of putting up with this place finally had it! All they do is looking for reasons to charge you for anything they can come up with! l could write a book...but will not waste my time except to warn others to keep your eyes on them and don't let them get away with their money grabbing ideology! Stay away! I would give minus rating if it was possible!!!!

Wonderful staff, clean clinic, and my fur baby was treated like royalty. I also respect the care and treatments available in this clinic. They also have specialists who come in for specific need cases. Also, their prices are what I call reasonable. Vinny and I thank you all
