How to Save Money at Arnprior Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They misdiagnosed my great uncles cat. I just got ahold of this situation yesterday called them to ask what was going on with his cat ( my uncle is 88 yrs old and all he has is this cat) they said the cat was neglected and starved. I was personally there he feeds it milk , treats , sardines and on-top of his regular cat food. They couldn't find out was was wrong with it so they sent the cat to the SPCA and I am not aloud to even try to get this cat back. What a sad sad sad vet clinic to do this. This cat is all he has. I've seen him bring it in from the barn into his nice warm shop where my uncle spends most his days. The cat sleeps beside the nice warm stove. That cat was his everything and just like that we miss diagnose your companion and steal it from you. After he already paid a 600$ vet bill from them!!! Do not recommend this place ever.

Terrible experience here for multiple reasons. We did not feel like our dog was considered in any way and paid for services that were subpar or not delivered because they were too busy despite us booking ahead an appointment for the exact test we asked for. Will be speaking with management and moving our dog to another clinic for continued treatment. Edit based on business response: the blood test we booked an appointment for was a 4dx snap test. This is a very quick test and typically results are supplied during the appointment. The test was recommended by the vet and we came prepared with a urine sample for follow up testing if the test was positive. Rather than being asked to wait, we were told they were too busy, despite specifically booking an appointment ahead of time for this test (online information states the test takes approximately 8 minutes) In addition, before all this, we were emailed stating our dog was due for annual vaccines and promptly booked an appointment at which we were told she wasn't due for anything. I took the opportunity to ask about her low appetite and this is when the 4dx test was recommended. I also asked if the very expensive exam fee could be extended to cover the dog for when she was due for vaccines in a few months, barring no changes in her health and was told no, and in fact it was a regulation that a dog needs an exam with each vaccine appointment. Upon contacting the ontario college of veterinarians about this issue, I was informed promptly that the vet is allowed to use their own judgment on whether a new physical exam is warranted based on circumstances and further more that they can choose whether or not they can charge for that service. It is not a rule as descrived at thr clinic. All in all, a lot of bad communication has led us here, we did get a positive test result, but lost two days of being able to treat since our appointment was on a Friday. With a dog not eating and quite old, 2 days can make a lot of difference. We are glad we got the results and the admin staff discussed my concerns with me while picking up medications for the dog. No one treated us differently because we complained. But we do feel this is not good service. We have 5 dogs, multiple other small pets and large animals as well. We deal with many different vet practices and have never complained until now.

From the receptionist to the veterinarian Brianne Appleby everyone was so caring and helpful on one of the worst days of my life. My beloved Bob had been with me and Rick for 18 years and we had to make the painful decision to have him euthanized and they just made everything so much easier. Thank you from the bottom of our ❤❤❤❤

We moved to Arnprior in 2021 and our dog had an issue with 2 rotten teeth mentioned by our vet in Orleans. The Alta vista animal hospital gave us a quote of 2500 to 4000 to remove the two teeth as normal vets will no longer deal with teeth. Thinking this was crazy we got a quote from Anrprior animal hospital. They quoted 3500 per tooth saying that it was not likely they could do both at the same time. As our dog was suffering we got it done at alta vista for a final cost of 3200. Next we decided to get our dog's anal glands empty, has to be done every 2 months for him, and nails at arnprior even though their cost was aprox $90 and the groomer in Orleans was $50 just because it saved us a drive. Last time I took him to Arnprior to get it done they charged me $150 without even telling me the price went up first. This place appears to only be out for money. We take our dog to Kanata for glands and nails now at $50. The only reason I am giving a 2 star instead of a 1 is because they are polite and friendly.
