How to Save Money at Emergency Veterinary Clinic Destin

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

One of the best vet experiences we’ve had. Past emergency vet visits have been stressful, expensive, and often left us questioning the care. That wasn’t the case here. Lorrena (tech and office manager) and Dr. Davis were incredible. They were professional, compassionate, and genuinely kind to both us and our mini schnauzer. We felt confident she was in great hands the entire time. Very grateful for their care. We wouldn’t hesitate to trust them again.

We had an awfully sick “pup” last night and drove from Bay County to the Main Street, Destin location. The kindness, compassion and knowledge of the entire staff blew me away. These people work all night to take care of our pets. We didn’t leave home until past bedtime for most folks and did not get back home until 3:00a.m. In particular I want to recognize our Vet Tech, Mandy Cochens for her outstanding bedside manner, patience in explaining our care plan and the meds we received. My husband and I are incredibly grateful for the care we received late at night and cannot express our gratitude adequately.

I brought my Frenchie here about a year ago when he was dealing with pancreatitis, and the care we received was exceptional. The team was professional, compassionate, and acted with a real sense of urgency throughout the entire process. I especially appreciated how transparent and understanding they were about pricing. They took the time to review everything with me and even removed nonessential items to help lower the cost of care. I’m incredibly grateful for their support and highly recommend them for any emergency veterinary needs!

Our dog was wheezing the entire trip down for vacation. We debated going home, but decided to try out the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Destin after calling them and discussing his issues. I arrived around 10:30 pm and there was one animal ahead of us. We were back in a room within a few minutes. Everyone was great. The worked as quickly as possible and kept me posted on what they were doing. Eventually they did x rays, which allowed them to diagnose the issue. We discussed possible treatments and they were attentive to my concerns. They even sent over copies of the x rays to our regular vet so we could follow up when we got back home. All of the fees were reasonable and the entire appointment lasted about 2 hours, which was much better than I expected. Thanks for doing a great job. If you find yourself in need of emergency vet services, I highly recommend them.

The girls that work here are great, very sweet to me and my dog. The vet I saw (olderman) is the type where he speaks and you just listen. Brought my dog in for blood in urine. First thought is UTI because still have steady flow of urine. Vet immediately wanted to do x ray’s to test for stones or cancer. I asked to do urinalysis first to rule out UTI, because the x rays seemed unnecessary. Results came back positive for UTI with minimal evidence to support bladder stones. Vet came in convinced me they needed to x rays. X rays come back negative for stones and cancer. 750$ to walk home with some 5$ antibiotics. X rays aren’t a guarantee for stones or cancer anyways, only ct scans or ultrasound give reliable data. It’s just an upsale tactic. That’s price to pay to have 24/7 clinic I guess. Keep in mind this noon on a Saturday. My gut screams scam, but what do I know, I’m not a vet.
