How to Save Money at Village Square Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love the attention given to our fur kids, and the responsiveness of Doc Cherry Douglas when we have a question or concern for them. The entire team is a good mix and work well together to get things done. THANK YOU to all at Village Square Vet Clinic!

We have been at Lantana-Atlantis animal Hospital ever since we moved here three years ago. It was so hard to get my dog medicine and we were unhappy with the service. I got a beyond med insurance plan from my employer, and this veterinarian was one of the providers. Thank goodness, we found them! I brought my dog, Eli, for his first visit today and they were the kindest people! They have a sofa that made him feel right at home and calmed him down so that he could get his allergy shot. They were transparent about their pricing, and their prices are less than half the cost of Lantana-Atlantis animal Hospital. They made sure that there were no other dogs around when Eli was walking between rooms because they knew he was not good with other pets. Plus, they have an amazing online pharmacy that is not only going to deliver his medication to our door automatically, but his medication is now 1/6 of the price for a three month supply than it was with Lantana-Atlantis for a one month supply. I’m so happy we found this place!

Where do I begin, there are so many fronts that this practice had failed my pet in regards to prescribing medications that have serious side effects and I can't believe for one minute that she was unaware of. My dog had been on Apoquel for 4 straight years, which I believe played a significant role in him developing a pancreatic tumor due to this medications mechanism of suppressing the immune system. She had to be aware that there were some very concerning issues related to this medication when prescribed long term, yet she continued to prescribe it, having no regard for the consequences. He also was given his 1st dose of Librela at the beginning of Nov., when shortly thereafter he developed a lameness in his one hind leg, he couldn’t put any weight on it, along with seizures, which are the more severe reactions to the injection, but never once did anyone ever mention to me before the injection that the FDA had issued a "Letter of Notification to Veterinarians of adverse events", and I mean severe adverse events, reported by pet owners, cause I definitely would have not gotten the injection. Turned out Kato had insulinoma from the tumor & the outlook was grim so I made the difficult decision to have my dearly beloved Kato euthanized, and it broke my heart. Vets need to held accountable for their actions, we entrust our dog's lives to them and hope that they are knowledgeable & not prescribing medications that could be harmful to them, due to ignorance. Please, if you are considering either of these medications, do your homework, you need to be your own advocate. In the case of these drugs it appears the risks could far outweigh the benefit. I've attached the FDA "Client Information sheet to this review, that should have been given to me by the vet BEFORE the injection, but never was, take a minute and read it, it's horrifying, one of the issues it clearly states is to NOT give this injection if an animal has underlying conditions, which she absolutely knew he did

I changed to this vet because of the akc registry and its closer to where I live however it takes a certain kind of vet to examine a pit bull and the last vet I seen at this place didn't even examine my dog like I asked unlike healthy pet veterinary they really took their time their and got acquainted with my dog so they could examine her cause she's getting old and she doesnt like people to touch her. So im switching back to healthy pets they are way more.thourogh and I feel like the level of care is much higher. At village Square its like they are just there for the pay check if that makes sense so I wouldn't recommend this vet to anyone with big dogs since thats all I have.

The team here is so helpful, it feels like a family. Both Dr. Carmona and Dr. Douglas really care about my dog. They're mindful of the recommendations that they give. And I trust that their judgement. I really appreciate everyone that works here, down to the technicians and front desk associates. You can tell they are a staff that is valued and reciprocate that value to their patients.
