How to Save Money at Mission Gorge Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am once again disappointed by the Dr. Lee. He was very rough in cleaning my dogs ear shoving with much force. He proceeded to squeeze ear cleaner into his ears and let him shake his head with the liquid going everywhere. The worst part was he expressed our dogs anal glands ungloved and after a few minutes of discussion began to assess my dogs eye where he recently received surgery. That is a huge risk for infection. I removed his hands from my dogs face and took my dog home to clean around his eye to prevent what infection may come from his unsanitary practices. I knew he can be very quick and brutal with his patients but as a simple recheck I decided to keep the appointment. Boy do I regret that. Dr Lee PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS. PLEASE BE MORE GENTLE WITH YOUR PATIENTS. Just sharing this review for anyone who does not want to risk what I experienced with this vet.

I understand people can have misdiagnosis with vets. You can also have this with a doctor or hospital. I have 3 Siamese Orientals, two big-eared European and a Lilac. Doc Lee always calls "personally" to ask how the last visit outcome of health report. SOLID!! 💪 Nothing in life is perfect, even YOUR health with gerneral care. 3 1/2yrs of treatment has made (me) feel secure. My cat family is high breed papered Siamese. "This is my choice for 28yrs+, your opinion doesn't matter". They don't push treatment, rob you blind, they give options and don't BURDEN your decision. Life is amazingly complicated and so are your kindred animal spirits 💕 This family owned vet office is a gem.+++

I started taking my dog here when we moved into the neighborhood a few years ago and I love it! No frills, but good service and availability when I've needed which is all I care about. The vet and staff are all very respectful with my dog. Dr. Lee even called to check up on my dog when he was prescribed some medication for joint pain (limping from a strain). I also like that I can be with him when they administer the shots to calm him down because the last vet I was with would take him away from me and it stressed us both out.

I honest think this pet clinic are a scammer . I took my pet to be seen yesterday due to illness. I was charge $435, because Dr Lee said my cat has a kidney failure and dehydration. So they claimed they give him a CBC shot, blood test and fluids. Tell me why my cat died in less than 24 hours after I brought him back home? Early morning the next day. They killed my cat y’all 😭Can we get our money back for that? Less than 24 hours. Someone please help 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Very helpful with decades of experience. Mrs. Lee can be a little difficult to understand at times but she’s very willing to help. Dr. Lee sits and explains the why and how between all treatment options which is very helpful for making treatment decisions. They treat all kinds of animals but have a lot of experience with cocker spaniels! Highly recommend making an appointment as walk ins can cost more.
