How to Save Money at Kindred Path Vet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Garnett treated my English Bulldog after she was diagnosed with cancer, and I’m so incredibly grateful she was the one caring for her. She was kind, patient, and so thoughtful throughout the whole process. The love and care she showed my dog Lola was obvious from the start. You could tell she genuinely cares and loves all her patients, and that kind of energy makes such a difference when you’re going through something hard. She also offered acupuncture and Chinese herbs, which ended up helping my dog a lot. It gave her some real relief and calm when she needed it most. She’s incredibly knowledgeable in both traditional vet medicine and holistic care, and she brings them together in a way that makes so much sense. That combo is a huge gift to be able to give your pet. I trust her completely, and I’d recommend her to anyone who wants a vet who genuinely cares and knows what she’s doing.

Dr. Garnett is the most genuine and well rounded veterinarian I have ever met. She is extremely knowledgeable and able to explain complex diagnoses and treatment options while maintaining the utmost patience and compassion. When my dog was diagnosed with a peripheral nerve sheath tumor, I was devastated and she took the time to walk me through every option and supported me in every choice I made. In our case, chemotherapy wasn’t an option but she provided regular acupuncture that made a world of difference in my pup’s movement and comfort level. She also provided tips for nutritional support and other holistic supplements as well. I was so happy to know I was doing everything possible to keep him comfortable as long as I could. I cannot recommend her enough! I wish every pet could have a veterinarian like Dr. Garnett to provide that level of palliative care at the end of their lives.

I cannot express enough how deeply grateful I am to Dr. Garnett for the incredible care and healing she provided to my beloved animals. When my cat was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and severe osteoarthritis, Dr. Garnett took a holistic approach, working alongside my cat’s Internist and combining acupuncture and alternative therapies that helped us gain three additional months with her; something we didn’t think was possible after such a devastating diagnosis. Her compassionate, and gentle touch made all the difference. Not only did Dr. Garnett help my cat, but she also brought healing and relief to my dog who was struggling with lumbosacral stenosis and osteoarthritis. With acupuncture and personalized treatment, my dog found comfort and healing in ways I hadn’t imagined possible. The treatments were more than just physical care; they helped restore a sense of peace and comfort to both my pets and myself. What sets Dr. Garnett apart is her calming presence and intuitive guidance. She approached each animal as an individual and treated them with the utmost compassion and respect. During such a challenging time, her holistic approach gave me both hope and relief, not just for my pets’ physical well-being, but for their emotional and spiritual comfort as well. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Garnett to anyone seeking not just medical expertise for their pets, but a compassionate and truly caring approach to veterinary and palliative care.

We feel incredibly lucky to have Dr. Garnett as our veterinarian. She’s been caring for our cat, who was diagnosed with cancer, and her approach has made all the difference during a really difficult time. Dr. Garnett is kind, thoughtful, and deeply compassionate. She truly listens, explains things clearly, and always puts our cat’s wellbeing first. Her integrative approach combines the best of both traditional and holistic care, and we’ve felt completely supported every step of the way. It’s clear she genuinely cares—not just about the animals she treats, but about the people who love them. We are so grateful to be under her care.

Dr. Garnett is a wonderful integrative oncologist who utilizes the best of both Eastern and Western medicine in her care of pets. My cat, Mako Shark, had a very rare manifestation of a type of cancer called mast cell which had already metastasized by the time we found it. Despite the atypical and aggressive presentation, she was able to put him into a complete remission/cure with an excellent quality of life, giving us another couple of years with him until we lost him to an unrelated condition. Mako fell in absolute love with Dr. Garnett- he would previously get so stressed out on car rides/vet visits but she completely turned him into a kitty that loved going to the vet because of all the love and attention. After Mako’s cancer, he developed idiopathic megacolon which led to fecal incontinence. Dr. Garnett offered to trial him on acupuncture and despite my skepticism that it would work, it significantly improved his signs. Dr. Garnett takes complete ownership of her patient’s cases and always treats her patient as a whole, not just as their cancer.
