How to Save Money at Clairemont Village Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been taking my kitty here for the past few years and they have always addressed my needs and made sure my kitty was okay. Recently I had to fly with her, and given how much she dislikes the car, I went in to seek advisement for medications that could be used to lower her stress. The waiting room was packed as many were picking up their pets after surgery. This was a bit overwhelming for my kitty, but you could tell the staff was working hard and doing their best given the demand. The vet did an amazing job at discussing medication options with me, and was happy to answer all of my questions, such as pharmacology, efficacy, and safety. I appreciate that the vet not only prescribed a medication that worked, but they spent the time to teach me what I needed to know, and were open to the questions that I had along the way. My kitty had a smooth plane ride, and I am so thankful to the team here for helping us travel safely!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Perry Diamond and his Clairemont Village Pet Clinic team. My dog Skye is usually very anxious about vet visits, but from the moment we walked in, the staff went above and beyond to help her feel at ease. They took their time engaging with Skye, patiently letting her warm up at her own pace. When Dr. Diamond came in for her exam, Skye was calm and comfortable—something I’ve never seen at a vet’s office! Dr. Diamond himself was incredibly thorough and compassionate. He listened carefully to my concerns about Skye’s sensitive stomach and offered several treatment options, explaining each in detail. I appreciated that there was no pressure—just honest, thoughtful advice tailored to Skye’s needs. He never rushed us, which is such a rarity these days. I highly recommend Dr. Diamond and his excellent staff if you’re looking for a clinic that genuinely cares about your pet’s well-being and comfort. They’ve earned our trust and gratitude!

Dr. D is the real deal. He made a diagnosis on my dog by careful physical exam that two others couldn't make even with extra testing. As a long time medical professional who trained when CT scans were new and automated blood testing was rare, I appreciated this both for accuracy and for dedication to craft. His staff is always nice at the front desk. He is dedicated to his neighborhood but worth the drive if you're further away. I've been to at least a dozen others and won't ever go elsewhere again.

Has been my go to vet for a while now and they deserve the rating from me. Dr Diamond cracked a case on my dog 6 other big vets in San diego couldn't (almost 8k wasted), and after that I knew these folks were the one. From there on its been nothing but amazing, they have a very special staff team. Like, everyone remembers the pets, know how to work with each and every one differently, like my aggressive and very protective 120lb GSD. AND YET THEY LOVE TO SEE HIM!!! But yeah, if youre looking for a vet, one time visit or long term these are the folks you want. Military friendly and can work around multiple types of difficult situations too.

I've been taking my cats there for a few years now, and very recently I had to put down my Moose. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. The staff have always been great, especially on my last visit. They also mailed me a signed card by a few of them with kind words and both of his front paw prints on small cards with his name on them. Also the prices have always been fair compared to a couple others that I have been to. Thank you Clairemont Village Pet Clinic for all that you've done. Keri Nolin
