How to Save Money at Vet to Pet Mobile

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have used this vet since moving to bc in 2022. My beloved 17 yr old cat mister poops was put to rest June 2023 and Dr.Kim and staff were incredible with his elder care and end of life. We adopted twin babes Ellie and Lil in Feb 2024 and from first visit to a double spay the care and attention has been top tier! Having used many of the services offered I am so thankful we have found such accommodating and caring staff!!! The prices are high, but not unreasonable for veterinary care and they do their best to ensure your pets get only what they truly need. We will definitely continue to use Dr. Kim and staff for our babies medical care :)

Dropped in earlier today for a only an under 5 minute trim for my small Chihuahua. Got turned away, no time and didn’t even offer a later appointment that day. I have never been turned away by any reputable Vet. before. Who would say no to this cute dog?? ☹️

I've recently had 4 cats neutered at an amazing price, I saved thousands! Thank you so much, dr did a very good job, the cats are all healing well. I also had my dog vaccinated. The appointment didn't take long to book ahead. One happy customer!

When a dog i was caring for on the reserve got attacked by several dogs Cheryl was super helpful, if it wasn’t for doctor kim our handsome dog rokko would have passed last christmas. He got to live a comfortable life until early September when he passed away from an infection. I really appreciate the hard work, dedication, and extra hours they spent on emergency visits for our fella rokko. They had to put drain tubes in his leg and we had to clean the blood off his fur all the way to his head which is the only major issue we had with their treatment plan (plus misunderstanding about the infection which resulted in unforeseen -fatal- complications) Thank you vet to pet for the patience and compassion you’ve shown. I am also very impressed with how they remember their patients after a few months or years

I have an emotional support dog named Chief. Today I got him neutered, ID tattoo, microchip, and a de worm at Vet to Pet in Smithers. Chief and I have never been apart and I was bothered by the thought of him being sedated or waking up without me being there. I can’t say enough how helpful and supportive the entire staff is. They let me stay the whole time, even while he was put under, and as soon as he was done before he actually woke they had me there with him. I asked for several small favours too like an ink pad to get a paw print and they helped with a smile. Nothing was inconvenient or even a bother. They were so professional and have a very clean facility. Surgery was fast, and after looks great and Chief woke up very happy and is doing very well at home as I write this 3 hours later. What a wonderful experience. This will be our permanent vet from now on. I highly recommend. Such great caring people.
