How to Save Money at Menzies Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been coming to Menzies Pet Hospital for over 14 years. Dr. Mann and his associates have always been very kind, compassionate and caring for all of my 4 pets. (cats and dogs) I will continue to be a loyal customer in the future and highly recommend trusting them with your fur baby.

I’ve been debating on leaving a review or not but if l found myself in the same position I’d wish I had read a review like this before making my decision to go to Menzies. Don’t get me wrong, the staff was very kind and friendly, as was dr Mann, Unfortunately kindness doesn’t forgive the fact that my cat almost died. I took my cat in as I was extremely worried that he had a urinary blockage as he was urinating in his sleep, all over my house, growling and crying in pain so I called the morning of and got a same day appointment. They determined he was not blocked, even though the urinalysis clearly showed thick sludgy pee full of crystals, I was sent home with pain management and advice to add wet food and a water fountain, even though I had mentioned that we already do those things. I was even told he could get blocked at any moment. I felt confused how pain management would help him, and how there wasn’t more we could do for my cat considering being blocked is life or death but regretfully I went home and trusted that he’d get better. 2 days later we found ourself at an emergency vet, after seeing blood dripping from my cat and even more growing and intense crying. Sure enough he was blocked and needed to go into surgery immediately. After being unblocked, his kidney values were continuously getting worse, his urine was still full of blood and things weren’t necessarily looking good for our kitty. I even called and talked to dr Mann while my cat was admitted at the emergency vet to tell him what was going on, ask a few questions and he told me he would call the other vet and follow up with me, I never heard back. Ultimately after 72 hours at an emergency vet an hour away and a $4500 bill, my cat is home, happy and healthy. ( thank god ) I would not recommend bringing your cat to Menzies for urinary blockages/issues. Sorry for the poor review but it has been emotionally and financially draining to go through this and I wish I brought him to a vet that would have taken our issues more seriously from the beginning 😔 * a photo that Fraser valley emergency vet sent me while my kitty was admitted for 72 hrs *

Friendly staff but vet only seemed interested in how many tests he could suggest. Poor exam. Did not check temperature.,check ears eyes or find lump on my dogs stomach. Which a normal examination I was charged for would entail. BEWARE!!! After this review this clinic who did not like my review reported me to BCSPCA investigation Telling them that I was not taking care of my dog. Thi clinic is aware of another vet taking care of my boy because they sent their report to her. No way to conduct business.

My husband and I visited Menzies Pet Hospital unexpectedly, and faced a hard decision with saying goodbye to our senior French Bulldog. We met Dr. Singh for the first time, who kindly walked us through the process of euthanasia. He was extremely gentle, soft spoken. The environment was exactly what we needed to enjoy the last few moments we spent with our best friend. Dr. Singh - thank you for your professionalism and kindness. We would highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for end of life care for their pets.

The team at Menzies put my small dog together again after she was attacked by a Doberman and a Pit Bull. Riley was torn up badly, especially around the throat, and I was sure she was going to die, but, no, they treated her and in a four hour session sewed her largely degloved head and neck together as well as repairing multiple other bites and tears on her body. The follow up appointments with Menzies were excellent, calming, and professional and, ten days and couple of CPR sessions later, I am confident Riley will live. The staff at Menzies truly care about your pet and will go above and beyond to care for them. Thank you for my dogs life.
