Trupanion had our backs when surgeons saved Darwin
Darwin, a very large golden doodle, has a very simple rule: all toys are mine. Playing in the off-leash enclosure near our home, he greedily grabbed two balls with his gigantic jaws. As we tried to remove them (and return them to their owners) we all noticed that yet a third one seemed to be missing. It couldn't be found. We suspected he may have swallowed it in his determination not to give the toys back. We took him to the vet's for an X-ray. It showed nothing. Although we weren't convinced, his behaviour and health were completely normal, week after week. We eventually concluded our fears were groundless. Then, an astonishing 6 months later, he began vomiting and collapsed (and had lost 10 pounds from his usual 100). He was rushed to Canada West Veterinary Specialists, where the amazing surgeons found a soft, very compressible "whiffle" type toy (with holes in it for treats) was lodged in his abdomen, with lining of stomach growing into the holes. It was dire, and we were told he might not make it. But those surgeons are very skilled - they saved him, removing 20% of his stomach. He has made a full recovery. It was a horrendous couple of days...made much more bearable knowing Trupanion had our backs. I have told countless people about the advisability of pet insurance, and how fantastic the service is. We are very grateful.

The best pet insurance company
Trupanion walks its talk! I hoped we would never need to use our pet insurance for Lovie , our 16 month old Bulldog ; but we did. And you know what? When I got the check in the mail from Trupanion , I knew right then why I chose Trupanion. There are no gimmicks in its policy . They want to live up to our expectations . Amazing company!
We have a bulldog that REALLY likes socks. He ate several of them and suffered a complete GI blockage. After the first emergency surgery to remove the blockage he went into shock and needed a second surgery. One blood plasma injection and six days in intensive care later and he was well on his way to recovery.
The total cost was around 16k and Trupanion paid their share within a few weeks of the claim. I'm so glad we didn't have to make a life-or-death decision for our little guy due to financial reasons. Do yourself a favor and buy insurance for your pet. I can't say enough good things about Trupanion and I recommend them to every pet owner I meet.

Wish human health insurance was this easy!
When the vet recommended pet insurance my immediate thought was not another bill. Let me tell you, this is best thing you can do for yourself and your pet! It is a simple, yet cost effective way of managing your pets health. In the event a major illness or if an accident occurs your not left to make the difficult decision of having your animal suffer or worse yet be put down because you cannot afford the major life saving procedure(s) that makes difference of a happier outcome. You decide your deductible based on what you can afford. It is not a one size fits all situation. Claims are handled professionally and the customer service is great. You speak to a human, what a concept! We tend to forget animals age faster than we do by leaps and bounds, sign up when they are young and enjoy peace of mind.

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
