+ if you start young good, otherwise not

So, it's a bit frustrating because we started out dog young on the plan and it turned out to be very helpful when we found out our dog has terrible environmental & food allergies, but the food allergies causes us to have to feed our dog prescription food that costs $87 a bag of dry and $78 for 24 cans. Trupanion was reimbursing us 50% when suddenly, 2 years in, they told us "OOPS! We made a mistake, we were only underwritten to reimburse you guys 50% of the food for 2 months, but we won't recollect back the money we saved you"... WHAT?!! :| Seriously? *sigh* Basically Now that we chose Trupanion as our provider for our then puppy, we will not find another insurance company that will cover our now dog for a good price, so, we're stuck with Trupanion or no coverage, which we can't do because of costs, which have gone up every year BTW, so, be prepared for that! Our little dog, was already an older dog when we signed him up and those monthly payments did nothing for us so we currently have gone down to the minimum of $1000 deductible for $35 a month premium. We're contemplating getting rid of that too, but we're afraid he'll get a tumor and then it will have all been for naught.

LIGHTING FAST REIMBURSEMENT

My puppy was very sick and the expenses were well over $1,000. I received my check within 7 days from the day I was at the vets. I was amazed at the quick turn around. I am now able to pay my credit card bill with my reimbursement check!

Amazing service and responsiveness

I rushed Buster to the ER on a Tuesday night. He was found to be suffering from acute pancreatitis. He was hospitalized for two nights and discharged with 4 prescriptions, plus a specialized diet. I contacted Trupanion to verify benefits and faxed their 1-page claim form, along with the detailed invoice from the hospital. I had my reimbursement check in less than a week. This is exactly why I purchased this for Buster when he was just a few months old: I never wanted to have to factor cost into a decision about easing his suffering or saving his life.

Glad I Kept the Insurance

The Insurance has come in handy. I started when Finn was a pup and now he is almost 8. Trupanion starts the claim almost immediately. I get email confirmations and updates within 1-2 days. The cheque comes quick! I wish premiums weren't so high. I wish the physio rider premiums were included as well. Oh well. Overall happy with Trupanion!

Fantastic

Sam, our Golden Retriever is 8 years old. He's always been healthy and happy and has a heart of gold. We'd do anything for him. He suddenly started to get tired on walks and within a week he developed severe breathing problems (where he couldn't even get up). After a couple of trips to the vet he was hospitalized. While in the ICU in the hospital Sam was placed on oxygen and went through a battery of diagnostic tests which determined he likely had lung cancer. We were devastated. Everyone prepared us to lose him quickly. But he powered through and was released from the hospital after 4 long days. He's doing very well on treatment and has a good quality of life. We can't say enough good things about our experiences with Trupanion. They are extremely quick in reimbursing out of pocket expenses; they allow the vet and the hospital to direct bill and follow-up with us over the phone to make sure that we have everything we need (they truly care about what's best for the animal). Simply, Sam would not be here if it weren't for Trupanion (we just would not be able to afford all of the tests, the hospital stay and the vet/medication bills). Trupanion was there for us from day one (an active and caring partner) and we are so thankful to them, as they gave us our Sam back.

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
