Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). Very supportive
I found the whole team very supportive during the claim process. My pet's issue could have been so much more serious than what it turned out to be. I was a little stunned by my pet's ordeal. I could not remember how to file my claim, and the agent was really kind and took everything over the phone and started my claim. They kept me advised of the status of the claim. The claim was processed in less than 2 weeks. I had trouble reading the claim summary, and again the team was very patient and understanding in helping me understand the claim summary. So with their help, I only had to worry about caring for my pet, and getting my little one healthy again. Thank you all!

Fast and Efficient
Our claims were processed so quickly with the refund to us in less than a week. With all the skin issues our poor little mutt is having it is nice to have a company that understands the urgency to get our claims processed. At this point as we put out so much money it's nice to receive some through our trupanion claims.

Fast, easy and exactly as described upon start-up!
Our 6 mo. old puppy Super Grover ( Shephard/ Great Pyr.) took advantage of a chaotic situation and got into the trash on Thanksgiving. He grabbed a ball of tinfoil (a split second is all it took) and swallowed it before we could remove it from his mouth. We were away with family in Maine called the emergency vet on call at home. They walked us through all the signs and symptoms of distress we should look for. He was passing it for a few days until Sunday at 4am. He began vomiting and a good amount of tinfoil was expelled. At this point we rushed him to an emergency vet in Maine to see if he was stable enough to get home. He was and we were able to bring him home to our go to emergency hospital in MA. They were able to do X-ray's Bloodwork and clear Grover with specific discharge instructions. During this time the hospital was able to help us begin a claim and start the process. We were pre-approved and the hospital submitted the final paperwork necessary. We received a confirmation email the next day and a claim check within a week. We were skeptical of pet insurance in the past but after having a dog in the past with many medical issues, We felt it would be worth it to try. When we adopted Grover he came with a one month free trial. After some deliberation we decided it would be worth it to try. We very happy with that decision and could not be happier with the service we have recieved so far. We have spoken to customer service representatives on a few occasions who have been professional and curtious.
We would highly recommend this company to anyone with an animal.

BEWARE
While they have great customer service, the rate hikes are outrageous. Nothing has changed in my pet's health condition but I just got notice my rate will be going up an astronomical 20% next month. I get that rates go up every now and then but this is ridiculous. Not impressed.

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
