Highly recommend
My dog has has a serious auto-immune disease and it's very expensive to treat. Trupanion has been totally fair, professional and compassionate. They have the best customer service of any company I have dealt with.

Trupanion allows me to be the best fur mom I can be!
Trupanion is more than just insurance and a way to pay for our dogs medical expenses. Trupanion allows us to provide them with timely care, in the way that they deserve and they are obvious about that purpose. Recently our dog Stella has become terminally ill all of a sudden and had to be rushed to emergency requiring thousands of dollars of interventions right away. Trupanions coverage allowed us to have all of that started and took the financial burden away. Because of our existing coverage Stella's treatment started immediately and was not delayed by us having to provide a percentage of payment up front. She is home with us now and our little miracle and we truly believe it's because of how quickly we were able to get her treated.
We went through a very expensive emergency surgery ordeal with our other dog 4 years ago without insurance and it was life altering for us financially, because we will always do what we have to for our dogs.
Trupanion allows us to focus on getting our Stella treated and better and takes away the very real anxiety of "how will we pay for it".
Trupanion has been great from the beginning. From the ease of use of signing up, constant communication to ease of submitting claims (most of the from the vet directly) to almost instant pre-approvals and constant email communication.
Even with the premiums increasing from constant use lately, it is still beyond worth it. It's a peace of mind money just can't buy (though I guess kind of does:) They are up front and transparent about what's covered and what's not and how.
Truly no catch. Truly worth it.

Life saver
Our cat had diabetes, allergies and renal failure requiring daily medication. Trupanion paid for all his medical care including needles, test strips and over-the-counter allergy medications. They always processed my claims quickly and I was even able to submit by sending photos of the receipts and claim form by email. Our cat was hospitalized twice, and both times Trupanion paid the vet hospital directly. We will definitely get Trupanion coverage when we adopt our next pet.

Peace of Mind
We decided to get our dog insured after struggling to afford medications and tests for our cat. I'd had another cat previously that I also struggled to afford veterinary care for, so at the suggestion of my boyfriend, we decided to go the insurance route. We got our dog signed up through their trial of insurance that we got at our veterinarian. Shortly after she broke a tooth, which they covered. A few months later she ate a naproxen tablet, which is toxic! I think the cat was trying to kill her because those pills were safely on the table when we left the house! Well they covered that vet stay too. Then she started vomiting and was later diagnosed with IBD. Not only have they covered that as well, but they pay my vet directly right at checkout so I don't have to worry about paying the full bill. It's been a real relief to pick up more than $200 worth of medication per month and only have to pay less than $20. We've been able to do things like ultrasound and endoscopy to diagnose what she has instead of treating her symptoms and hoping for the best like we've had to do in the past with other pets. We're even using Chinese herbal therapy right now to treat the IBD! We honestly could not have done all of that without Trupanion.

Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
