Glad that we have Trupanion
I would highly recommend that you get pet insurance on any pet. Trupanion has been quick to process the claims for our Golden.

Trupanion Keeps my Nellie Alive
You know that dream of having the cutest puppy that you would take on walks and go running and hiking with? Well some of those did come true for me when I met Nellie at 9 weeks old, but 2 days after picking her up she got severely ill and almost passed away from Parvo! I rushed her to the ER vet and will never forget when they handed me an invoice quote for $6000 for trying to keep her alive. I remember bursting into laughter thinking somebody forgot to remove a few zeros from the bill! Then I remembered that we got pet insurance when we picked her up, but of course I thought there is no way they'd pay for that! I send in a pre-approval claim to Trupanion with the help of the ER vet and it came back that they will pay. Long story short after 12 days in the ER, Nellie came out skin and bones but alive nonetheless. I only had to pay my portion of the bill (10% + consultation fees and applicable taxes) and Trupanion paid the rest. This was in May 2016. Since then Nellie has suffered several ailments and a lifelong condition due to her initial medical issue. It is a lot of work and stressful and frustrating at times and very costly. But I wouldn't be able to continuing caring for her if it wasn't for Trupanion. To date, I believe our claims are closer to $20,000 when you include the monthly medications and the number of procedures she undergone. If you were ever doubting the need for Pet insurance, don't! Just get one and go with Trupanion!

If you're fixed income like me this service is a lifesaver!
I've been very ill & on a low fixed income. This service has allowed me to get timely medical care for my cats & allows me to afford food for myself when the medical costs are high. If you have a claim dispute their representative's are kind, patient & resolve it quickly. They will always take the time to explain their decisions. I'm so grateful to have found Trupanion so many years ago. Would highly recommend!

A bit pricey but tremendous coverage
I have two cats over 18. I pay more then I would with other insurers per month, but they cover 90% costs AND have a really wide variety of illness/injury coverages, including specialists and surgery!
It really has been a lifesaver for my older cats.
They care about you like family, at Trupanion. I have had claims people walk me through the policies, explaining everything. They helped me in tailoring my plan, to save me money while getting my fur family needed coverage.

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
