Mostly great but some really bad
Trupanion is outstanding in some ways. My dog tore her ACL in both back legs (at different times) and they paid 90% of the surgery, all meds, and post op rehab. They cover chiropractic and laser therapy. Wonderful! However - my dog has allergies that are not covered because when she was in the 90 day waiting period, she broke out on her belly and the vet suspected allergies. We lived in Austin at the time and I don’t even think she was prescribed anything stronger than Benadryl but because of that, NOTHING is covered even remotely associated with allergies - or allergy medicine. We don’t live in TX anymore so the allergies she suffers in Nebraska are completely different but I’ve made my peace with this. Recently she had a bacterial infection in her paw. The vet increased her allergy medicine as a precaution because there was so much ice and snow that I couldn’t keep the paw dry or protected and it kept it from healing. So the claim was denied - because of allergies. That’s ricidulous. I don’t know if I would recommend them. They take forever to review claims they are going to reject and once denied, there’s an appeal process you have to go through. I get that they’re an insurance company looking for ways not to pay but if it weren’t for the times they’ve paid on the big stuff, I would not recommend.
