Pet Insurance is saving my dog from a painful life
My previous dog had cancer. I didn’t have insurance and had heard that it wasn’t worth the money. I spent all of my savings on chemo for him. When I got my new dog I was afraid she would get cancer one day and I would not be in a financial position to pay for it. I never wanted to be in a position of putting my pet to sleep because I didn’t have the money for health care.
My vet recommended Trupanion and I chose a 1000 dollar deductible to keep my premiums down. I thought that I would be able to cover vet costs unless she was hit by a car or ended up with cancer when she was older.
My new puppy seemed happy and healthy until she was 5 months old and I noticed she limped after a busy day. She also started to have a problem with yeast in her ears.
Now my dog is 20 months old. Her ear problem has continued and I have now spent more on her vet care for her ears than my deductible. While it is nice that costs associated with her ear infections is covered now, I could come up with the money to pay for it. Her problem with limping, however is a different story.
My beloved dog Calabaza has elbow dysplasia in both front legs. Without Trupanion I would not have been able to pay for the CT scan that was required to confirm the diagnosis and plan the course of treatment let alone pay for the treatment. Without treatment my beautiful golden retriever would suffer from arthritis as her elbow joints disintegrated. As a pet owner who considers her dog a member of the family it would have been devastating to have to decide between helping my pet or financial ruin. Luckily, I don’t have to make that decision, thanks to the Trupanion policy I purchased.
I am so grateful to have Trupanion. Within minutes of the specialist vet telling me Cala needed a CT scan I received an email telling me what Trupanion would cover and how much my portion would be.
My dog is having surgery in a few days and I can spend my time deciding how I will manage her aftercare instead of trying to find a way to covèr the cost.
Thank You Trupanion!!!
