Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). A Great Insurance Provider for your pet
Trupanion is the best! I have just completed my second claim and found the employees to be over the top and helpful. My second claim was initially declined which I found strange so I sent an email questioning the result. Again, the employees were respectful and willing to review. On review, my claim was covered!

Trupanion is no longer a good choice
There seems to have been a sea change at Trupanion in the past couple of years. Claims that used to be handled quickly and efficiently are now dragging on and the number of hoops you have to jump through has become unreasonable. The cost to insure our two small dogs has increased four-fold in the time they have been covered by Trupanion (one decade). This year alone, I'll be paying more than $4,400 to insure two dogs. It would be easier to stomach if claims weren't being denied far too often and if the appeal process wasn't designed to wear you down until you lack the energy to hold them accountable. The unreasonable demands from Trupanion have put a serious strain on our relationship with our vet clinic, which has spent literally hours on the phone arguing with Trupanion on our behalf.
When you look at the stock prices and recent media attention for Trupanion, their outlook is concerning. I'd hate to see others invest thousands of dollars in insurance premiums only to be left high-and-dry if the company ceases operation.
Trupanion's recent behaviour is not that of a thriving, customer-service-focused company. Take a close look at their stock prices and their recent reviews before you sign up.
Response to Trupanion May 4, 2023: At your request, I've sent Trupanion information so you can confirm my account and my experience, and that all the information I provided in the above review is accurate. Myself, my vet and the vet's office staff have spent countless hours in unproductive conversations with Trupanion. At this point, saving other people from the horrible experience we've had of late with Trupanion is more important to me that investing more time in unproductive conversations with you. It's crystal-clear you have no interest in making this right unless you're exposed to negative reviews and I find that reprehensible.

Monthly Cost
Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
