Pets Best | Pet Insurance Review

I'm convinced all these 5 star reviews are fake. This company has denied all but one claim by trying to say it was a preexisting condition. They will label ANYTHING they can as a preexisting condition just so they won't pay it. They literally told me "A lot of people get denied." The first claim they denied is because they said that "the vet used the exact same medication to treat a UTI previously so your claim is denied now because he has a stress induced cystitis flair up." The UTI was treated with an antibiotic and a pain killer. The cystitis a month later was treated with a pain killer so they called it the same. The vet even noted in their medical record the second one was due to stress. I let that go but I shouldn't have. A few months later, out of the blue, my same cat got blocked and I had to rush him to the vet. They found it was just a mucus plug. They flushed it out and had him stay in the hospital for 3 days. They prescribed him Prazosin just in case for when he went home. **PRAZOSIN IS COVERED IN PETS' BESTS OWN LIST OF MEDICATIONS - NO WHERE DOES IT SAY ON YOUR PAPERWORK THAT A NEW MEDICATION WILL BE DENIED FOR BEING RELATED FOR A SUPPOSED PRE-EXISTING CONDITION.** My cat has never taken this medication before! This all came to about $1780. I paid $800 to the vet up front to the do the procedure and the prescription, and the vet filled out a reimbursement form for the balance because THE VET said "He had not be hospitalized before, nor had a plug before so they shouldn't have a problem reimbursing this." It took over 30 days for any of these claims to be looked at. LO AND BEHOLD, TODAY, EVERYTHING WAS DENIED. They told me it was a preexisting condition all because it related to the same body part. Yes. First they tell me it's because the medication was the same, now they're telling me it's because it's the same body part. Then they tell me if I want to dispute it, it'll take AN ADDITIONAL 60 DAYS TO BE REVIEWED. YES, 90 DAYS TO GET A YES OR NO. Meanwhile you're expected to make monthly payments and pay the vet because they will not wait long for their money. DON'T END UP LIKE ME! I'M POSTING MY REVIEW EVERYWHERE SO PEOPLE CAN SEE. I'VE COMPLETELY WASTED MY TIME AND MONEY ON THIS COMPANY.

I've used Pets Best for my American Foxhound, Chance, since early 2015. They've always been very easy to deal with on submitting claims as well as very prompt in receiving payment.

I do appreciate the service your company provides. I was concerned,initially, over the time my response was taking, but your email informing me of the delay helped. I am impressed with Pet Insurance companies' efforts to enable adequate pet care, but I do feel that "rescued pets" are at a disadvantage because they come to us with "prior conditions" and sometimes limited prior knowledge of conditions that keep them from receiving full benefits of insurance coverage. They, often times, are the most in need of coverage. I would hope this fact would never prevent a rescue. I would be interested in knowing if this "imbalance" has ever been addressed by your company. I have only used this insurance for preventive care so far. When I got the insurance a little over a year ago, claims were paid within 10 days. They advertise quick claim processing with the average claim processed in 5 days. My dog was seen on 2-15-20 for preventive visit and wellness check and has yet to be processed. I contacted customer service and was told process time can be up to 45 days. I received a survey about customer service the next day. Quit sending surveys and process claims! Definitely considering changing insurances.

Love this insurance! They’re fast on viewing your claims and processing your return payment and will make sure to leave you an email when they’re running slow. I had a claim sent out and I got an email that they received quite a few and it might take longer than the initial day for the processing. I sent another claim 4 weeks later as my puppy was still getting her shots..and within 1 day, they both were processed.
