Dont buy. Sneaky fine print.

Ive been paying pets best for years and luckily have never had a emergency claim but scared if I do because of hidden fine print. I pay $175 a month (after increasing my deductible) and the insurance doesn’t pay for even 50% of most my regular maintenance bills if at all. Claims is quick which is nice but benefits are scammy, and restricted with tons of fine print. Without notice they changed my rate as my dog got older which seems ridiculous cuz i had been paying into the plan for years and should have been built into the original cost. Found cheaper better coverage alternatives in the market so shop around before buying w petsbest. I cant switch my policy now cuz my healthy dog is 12 now, but pets best is not worth the value. Had I saved that money since I started the plan I would be way up in cash in hand w ample leftovers for an emergency should one, god forbid, occur with my dog down the line. Save every month or buy somewhere else.

I am happy with Pets Best help and…

I am happy with Pets Best help and communication. I am not sure that the amount of reimbursement is as good as other pet insurances??? It seems like a little more should be covered but maybe my expectations are too high!

Coverage great , customer service not!

Well if I had to leave a rating on how Pets Best coverage worked with me as far as what my plan is and how they covered it, it was great and I would have gave it a 5 star. But when it comes to customer service and waiting to see if something is covered, or trying to speak to a person on the phone I would rate it a negative 1 star if I could. When you call Pets Best, just plan on getting in a workout or watch a movie and keep it on speaker phone because you will be waiting a very long time on hold listening to "elevator music". They will take about a month or longer to process your claim even though you did everything electronically and sent veterinarian invoices in right away, it doesn't matter. Just one example, I sent in all the necessary bills and documentation from my dogs surgery on September 29, 2020 and the next day it showed Pets Best receiving the claim. I just received my reimbursement from them on November 3, 2020. I couldn't even blame it on "snail mail" because everything is set up electronically for "faster and more convenient service" Also Pets Best advertises a "more convenient " pay directly to your veterinarian . This is a joke, nothing simple or convenient about it. I tried with my vet and it was such a big hassle that I had to cancel the process and pay the bill myself and wait the 35 days for reimbursement . My vet did everything they had to do, not only faxing the bill directly to Pets Best, but also calling Pets Best about payment. When my vet was told payment to them could be at least 30 days or more, they were not too happy with that and told me that my bill would remain as outstanding and charged interest if not payed in 30 days. So I didn't take the chance and paid my bill in full and waited the 30 plus days for my reimbursement. Anyhow, when all said Pet Insurance is the way to go and it will save you money in the long run. Pets Best did cover everything laid out in my plan and I still would recommend them for that reason, but you must have a lot of patience because their customer service / processing sucks!

Newer Policies Seem to Cover Less despite Cost

We've insured at least the last 6 of our German Shepherds and one golden retriever with Pets Best. We always have 2-3 GSDs at one time. No issues with making claims or claim explanations. My question now is that it seems that less is covered or paid than in the earlier policies. In fact I couldn't buy the same policy for the two most recent GSDs as the policies I had in the past. However, for 3 of the 6 dogs, each had a one-time significant medical issue and what Pets Best covered for those paid for the policy premium for about 4-5 years. Those policies were older than the current 3 policies we hold. I believe our dogs are on the high end of the premium scale based on breed. I'd rather not have to use it for significant medical issues but it certainly helped that with a significant medical bill. I'm tracking more closely as to coverage of routine care considering deductibles and copays to decide about a policy at all in the future. Pets Best has been fine otherwise.

Monthly Cost

$6 and up, depending on your chosen plan.

Coverage

Accident and Illness plans with optional reimbursement levels of 70%, 80%, or 90% after the deductible. Flat Rate Accident coverage for $9/month for dogs and $6/month for cats. (Available in most states). Two optional Wellness plans to cover routine care. 24/7 Pet Helpline, powered by whiskerDocs is included on all policies. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill. Reimbursements are sent directly to CareCredit credit card when chosen as your default reimbursement method. Choose to have your eligible claim payment reimbursed directly back to your CareCredit card.

Payout Limits

$5000 -Unlimited annual limit, depending on your chosen plan. Unlimited lifetime limits.

Deductible

$50 – $1,000 annually.

Age Limits

Pet must be at least 7 weeks old to enroll. Pets Best does not restrict coverage or availability for older pets.

Waiting Period

A waiting period refers to the amount of time after enrolling before your pet is eligible for coverage. Waiting periods vary by the type of coverage and start on the effective date of your policy. Once met, waiting periods are waived for continuous, uninterrupted policy renewals. Pets Best offers some of the shortest waiting periods in the industry following the policy effective date. Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Elective and preventive procedures are not covered.
