Astronomical policy premium increase

I have had Nationwide pet insurance for my pets for close to 8 years. I now have 3 pet policies and never had 1 claim on any of them. My oldest pet now 8 years old had a policy renewal this month. My monthly plan is around $50 per month, with this years renewal my payment we up to around $90. This is an increase of $35 PER MONTH!!!! On a policy that has not had ONE claim. This is the SECOND increase in 13 months, I had an $10 increase last year upon renewal. That is almost an increase of $50 in 13 months! While I understand the need to adjust the premium, but my monthly payment has almost doubled in 13 months. I called and was told the increase in a result of the average of the issues other pets of the same age and breed have had and the ONLY way to lower the payment amount is to raise my deductible. So let me get this straight, I started my policy 8 years ago choosing the lowest deductible paying more each month so in the event we needed to use the policy it would be less out of pocket. Now the only way to lower my almost doubled monthly premium is to raise my deductible which means MORE MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET if I need to use the policy. I should have used the higher deductible amount all along!!!! I've paid nearly $4,000 over a 8 year period to keep my deductible lower and now the only way to be able to afford this policy is to raise my deductible from $250 to $1,000. So assuming I need to use this policy, I'm out $1,000 on top of the premiums I've already paid, so close to $5,000. Why have insurance!!!! Now my pet is too old to go anywhere else without paying more. Well done Nationwide Pet...WELL DONE! Kudos for figuring out how to really stick it to you long time clients!
