I’m glad I have insurance

I am very happy with your insurance coverage. It gives me the ability to do what’s best for my puppy and give her the care she needs. Thank you.

WOW

I have Nationwide pet insurance including the Wellness Package with a $250 deductible. The rates for the first 3 years were higher than other pet insurance companies but still rather reasonable given the coverage and the lower deductible we chose. In these 3 years, we had one rate increase of a minimal amount (pennies). However, when our dog turned 3 y.o., the policy premium increased a whopping 65% ! ! Let me repeat that again so it sinks in, A WHOPPING 65%. No explanation given, just notice of the policy renewal with the new premium amount due. I filed a complaint with our state to look into this and then and only then were numbers given by Nationwide to justify this increase and a letter came to us with a State employee explanation that some companies choose to incrementally raise rates at a lower amount every year and others choose to raise rates astronomically once every couple of years. We were also told that since there are other pet insurance companies available to us to choose from, that this kind of rate increase is legal but if there were no other pet insurance companies available, this kind of rate increase would not be allowed (can't monopolize the market). I have to say that my jaw literally dropped open when I saw this increase and am baffled by such a huge increase. We understand prices go up, cost of living increases but why not increase premiums every year at a smaller rate which can be more easily absorbed into one's budget but to increase at such an astronomical rate is immoral. This causes us to make hard decisions about whether to keep this policy going to allow the best care for our dog. I know we didn't get a 65% salary increase to help cover this, so we are faced with a dilemma on how to proceed. At this point, we continue to subscribe to Nationwide for our little girl but if the rates continue at this kind of rate increase, I don't think we will be able to keep her covered and probably as she ages, is when we would need it the most.

Peace of mind

I’ve got the wellness and illness plan for my Labrador puppy. We have to go visit the vet almost every couple months. But, with nationwide it is so much easier on our pockets. Claim filing is painless.

Good Service

Good, friendly service. Would be nice if there was no deductible.

Mostly easy!

Great experience. One area for improvement could be submitting the claim form. Would be great if we could fill out the claim through the website and fill out the fields rather than downloading and having to use a PDF editor to fill in the fields and then email.
