Effortless and transparent process
Healthy Paws did an incredible job with my claims for my puppy's recent treatment. Healthy Paws has an effortless process for claims. They respond quickly and send an email outlining the process they will take to resolve the claim. Their process is transparent with no hidden surprises. Once they make their determination, an email fully explaining the return arrives. Because I had a few claims related to my puppy's treatment, they even sent followup emails asking how my pup was doing. Once they announced the amount they were paying, it appeared the next day in my bank. I couldn't be happier with the entire process. I highly recommend Healthy Paws and I'm glad I chose the policy I did.

Very steep monthly premium increases, every year after a dog is 4 years old.
I took out insurance with Healthypaws in 2015 for my then just adopted, 2 years old, 8.5lbs, mixed breed dog. He had zero pre-existing conditions. The monthly premium was $39.00 at the time. We’ve had absolutely no claims, yet Healthypaws sees fit to raise the monthly premium every year to the degree that they are now pricing me, (a senior citizen with slender financial means,) out. This right at the point that my little dog, now approaching his 10th birthday, might actually need some health insurance coverage in the future. Healthpaws has just emailed me to inform me that as of August, 2021, his monthly premium will be over $118.00. So be warned! In six years of paying Healthypaws, without any claims, or reimbursements to me, they have raised my premium from $39.00 a month up to over $118.00 a month.
I note the reply from Healthypaws 3 hours ago today, June 8th. In their reply to my post attached here, Healthypaws merely repeated word for word the exact response they gave to other of their hapless subscribers who are upset by their steep, annual, price increases after their dog reaches age 4. In addition, as I mentioned in my initial review, I have filed no claims and received zero reimbursements from Healthypaws in the 6 years of my paying their premiums, not merely “just not very many” as their response to me refers to! Plus my name is misspelt for good measure, it’s Romanie, not Romaine like the lettuce variety! Somehow this error seems emblematic of the true Healthypaws culture, however many times they write “Give your baby (dog,) a hug from us!”
Lol! Healthypaws just replied to my reply to them above, they amended the spelling of my first name which I had pointed out to them that in addition to everything else they had gotten wrong! That’s all!
Same terrible experience. Been paying them for 5 years now, and every year they keep increasing their rates with the excuse "the increases are in line with the increased costs of veterinary technologies..". I just received a $30 monthly increase on a pet. $30! My advise to anyone new to the pet insurance business is do not get it.
Once you start with one, anything that happens to your pet becomes "existing condition" for another insurance.
At the same time, your pet ages, and the premium keeps going up with Healthy Paws, while the age puts your pet in an "older price bracket" with another insurance.
Most insurance services consider "pre-existing condition" what has happened to your pet in the year prior to the renewal billing cycle. They renew your policy every year, but even if you have been with the insurance for 5 years, if your pet has had a problem during the previous policy term, it is considered "existing" and not covered. Have not experience this with Healthy Paws because I have not had any claim what so ever in 5 years.
if you do the math of how much you pay every month, and how much the premium will keep growing every year, and how much your cat ages which puts you in a more expensive premium somewhere else, you are better off savings money on the side for your pet every month and spend when and if an issue arises.
Also, as the policy keeps renewing every year, and they make changes to the policy, chances are that by the time your pet is very old (14years+), the insurance company will no longer pay, and will drop you from their coverage service.
Healthy paws is wonderful! My cat has had a policy for over 7 years and luckily have had only a few claims.
When I got my pup, I figured I should do the same. What a godsend. At 10 months old, Little Annie ended up with 2 bad knees and needed 2 luxating patella surgeries to fix them. An absolute fortune per leg. Submitting invoices right on their app, so you can start a claim same day was was a huge reassurance. They direct deposit to you once completed, so no hassle of waiting on checks. They’ve really mastered this process which helped ease this worried dog mama’s mind while taking care of her. I was reimbursed all that was stated in the policy.
Overall, I am highly pleased with healthy paws and would recommend them for sure.
