pleased with payment

my lhasa apso had an abscess in his mouth. since this required anasthesia, we decided to have his teeth cleaned at the same time,in order to avoid another anasthesia in the near future for a 14 year old dog. We were very pleased at the "division" of the payment as between covered and noncovered items. The items that were covered seemed more than fair to me.

Peace of Mind

My "baby" is 7 years old and generally in good health. We purchased ASPCA Pet Insurance for peace of mind. In a 6 month period we had to have her treated for an abscess, followed by a fungal skin infection, followed by an ear infection. We had to take her to an Emergency Animal Hospital for the abscess on a weekend so was costly. Fortunately, the ASPCA insurance covered a good portion of her bills. With this insurance I don't have to think about the cost first - I can just take her right away to have her treated. Filing claims and reimbursement are fast and easy. I wouldn't be without this insurance for my "baby".

Thank Goodness!

Thank Goodness for ASPCA Pet Insurance! Insurance-It is painful to part with $ every month that you feel you are just giving away, until you have the occasion to have a series of smaller claims or one big one. The first time I heard about pet insurance our first dog was older, but I had every confidence he would live for 8 more years. By the time I was ready to apply to ASPCA insurance, we found out he had liver cancer and died within a few days. That was a very, very, very hard time for our family. The bills incurred were also a huge shock! We soon decided our lives were not complete without a dog to love in our home. But this time, I was wiser, and signed up with the ASPCA Pet Insurance immediately. It is important to know that the pet insurance does not get activated until 30 days after you purchase it. Unfortunately our new puppy got sick under that time limit and we incurred a huge bill at the Vet again. But, I am happy that we have had coverage ever since, and unfortunately for our pet and for us, he has been ill multiple times and we have been happy to have our coverage!!! I suggest ASPCA Pet Insurance as a must to my friends and family who are getting a dog. It is no longer so painful to pay our monthly pet insurance bill, as we know that we have it there if we must use it. Just like there is a comfort in knowing we are lucky enough to have health insurance.

Financial support during a difficult time

Very thankful to have ASPCA pet insurance for several years. Have had occasion to use it during this past year, and it is very fair. Simple to process claims. Very helpful. Reps also helpful when called. Highly recommended.

Disappointed re: what ASPCA considers "reasonable"

I am very disappointed in this insurer and do not recommend it. Given that the policy alleges that a client can use "any vet" and be reimbursed at 80% of the amount bf the vet bill, I wrongly assumed that this insurance would have a reimbursement rate of 80% based upon a realistic fee. Albeit certain "reasonable rates" defined by ASPCA are surprisingly high (eg $120 for a specialist consultation), others are absurdly low (eg $27. for a urinalysis regardless of whether it was done in house or sent out to a lab) and just slightly over $200. for a multi-organ abdominal ultrasound performed by the same specialist that ASCPA considers $120. an appropriate fee for a consultation. Finally, the "reasonable" fees do not appear to be available until a claim is filed although a customer service rep suggested obtaining an estimate from the vet and then waiting to have services performed until ASPCA has an opportunity to "evaluate it" Overall, I am finding that I am being reimbursed at about 50% of the vet expenses that I was promised would be reimbursed at 80%. This insurance does not provide me the peace of mind that I hoped it would provide when I purchased it. And the company appears unwilling to make their list of "reasonable fees" upon which they provide reimbursement available. Moreover, although the staff is pleasant on the phone, I feel that find it annoying and unacceptable that I find their lack of transparency about determining reasonable fees to be unacceptable.
