How to Save Money at Rocky Mountain Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We just moved here and it’s definitely hard to find someone you feel comfortable with and trust with our 3 fur babies. Dr Kelley was amazing with two of ours that needed their yearly updates. Our American Bulldog mix wasn’t comfortable with our last Dr and he surely loved Dr Kelley. Thank you for all the information and comfort you provided.

OK. I'm very particular about my veterinarian. I have an amazing GSD that is a retired service dog. I moved here and started asking questions. This is where I chose. The staff was friendly and easy to talk to. I got an appointment for Petra right away. There was no arduous check in, everything was simple and straightforward. The building is stunning and squeaky clean with great parking. The doctor was great. I thought she had an ear infection and bladder infection and she didn't, no need for expensive testing. She did have a couple of vaccines that the doctor explained and offered up less and more expensive alternatives. I felt informed and safe. This hospital has one thing that I've never heard of and it's the best thing ever. They have boarding - that's offered only to patients. So when I take Petra there, I will know that she is with other dogs that are healthy and happy. I've had dogs my entire life and endeavor to keep them healthy for as long as possible within my limited budget. I would highly recommend this vet for many reasons.

Decent service but expensive, it felt like they threw the book at us in terms of testing and charges for a few day stay for our sick pup. When it came time to put her down, they charged us an extra $100+ dollars to be in the room with her, even though she did not need sedation.

BEWARE!!! Do not go to this Vet!!! They will charge an emergency day visit fee $270 for a simple standard appointment and not inform you they are going to over charge you and then will not discuss this billing they price gouged you with for a standard appointment along with that’s not even a normal charge if there happens to be an emergency fee! The customer service is horrible and the office manager Chris Fowler will not return any calls regarding your bill that was charged incorrectly nor will the staff relay any messages to the Vet Dr.Jane who owns the place! There is ZERO COMMUNICATION here with the staff or with the customers! Please don’t get caught up with this place and take your animals to trust worthy Veterinary office. There are good Vet offices in Casper that won’t treat you like this!! I see why they are not listed with the Better Business Bureau. 🤮

So impressed and so glad I ended up choosing them to spay my fur baby...I have a really hard time because my pup is extremely anxious, aggressive and due to the danger she can pose we don't take her out much at all. The staff were so friendly and helpful and determined to work around the fact that I have such an extremely aggressive dog (making sure lobby was clear, accomodations of appt time to have it go quickly and smoothly) They even clipped her nails and removed a growth! the best part, extremely fair and affordable prices. Highly recommend!!!!
