How to Save Money at Sandhill Pet Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've brought my dog here a few times in the past 8 months, and the staff and care has been top notch. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable, kind, patient, and helpful. They were patient when working with my anxious dog and were able to figure out how to "speak his language" with treats, giving space, and body language. I can't say enough great things about my experiences with Dr. Berg & the whole staff. Thank you all for what you do.

They have been my vet since 2013. I did try other vets twice when I moved further away from them, but never received the same care. I will never go to another vet again. I will travel whatever distance. The kindness, compassion, and expertise the Sandhill team has, you cannot find elsewhere. My mom actually switched her dogs to Sandhill at my recommendation. My kitties see Dr. Thompson and she is beyond amazing. We've seen Dr. Berg as well and she is just as awesome as Dr. Thompson. They've had the same team since we've been patients, adding new faces as they've expanded over the years. I would love to recommend transferring your fur baby's care to them, but as of writing this, I don't believe they are accepting no patients. I am beyond grateful for having Sandhill as my furbabies vet. You guys rock! Thank you for providing extraordinary care to Meowzer and Ash.

The best vets in Madison, hands down. Dr. Berg and Dr. Thompson are so incredibly kind and NEVER over prescribe or do extra exams or tests that aren't necessary. Also all the techs at this clinics are the best. They treat our two dogs like they are their only patients. We live on the far west side and happily travel to the east side for their care. Can't recommend them enough.

I've been going to Sandhill for almost two years and I've only had great experiences. They are so attentive, happy to answer all my questions, and really spend the time to work with me to figure out solutions for my cats. One of my cats, Scribbles, wasn't eating/drinking and was hiding all of Sunday and they were able to get her in on Monday a few hours after we called them. They examined her and re-hydrated her and now she is back to her mischievous ways. I was shocked by how low the bill was, especially given how short notice it was. I've been recommending Sandhill to my friends since I started going to them and I will keep doing so. Amazing and honest vets!

We’ve been seeing Dr Kelly (Thompson) at Sandhill since we finally decided we had found our vet. Dr Kelly and all the Sandhill staff are devoted to our beloved boy, a cattle dog who is always a handful. They take it all in stride and get him in and out with the utmost of care. We trust what they say is correct and the best option for him. The front desk staff always treats us like family and it feels so good knowing I can take my spicy boy there without issue. Dr Sue (Berg) has seen him once too when Dr Kelly wasn’t available in a pinch, and everything went as smoothly as usual. The trust we have in this place is the most meaningful and we know what they say is best for our guy. Best place ever and we’ll always have Sandhill be our people. Thanks all Sandhill staff and especially our vet(s). You guys are priceless.
