How to Save Money at Northwest Animal Eye Specialists - Renton

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was throughly impressed with this facility as a former veterinary practice manager. It is clean and spotless, beautifully designed and comfortable. The coffee and tea area was great. I was thrilled to see they were AAHA accredited- which means they voluntarily conform to the exacting standards of AAHA in all areas from surgery to the front desk. This made me feel much safer about my pet needing surgery there in a few days. The staff were all very friendly and compassionate, from reception to the treatment area. The doctor was wonderful and I was instantly at ease with her. Very happy to make the trip to this place any time for my pets eye needs. Prices are very reasonable for a specialist! I was surprised at how affordable the surgery would be.

Everyone that works here shows so much love and compassion to both the owners and their fur baby. With my poor girl losing her eyesight in a matter of just a couple hours, this wonderful clinic got us in within the next day of calling and leaving a VM. All around a wonderful place. Thank you for taking such great care of Mackenzie ❤️❤️

I was so lucky to get an appointment with this eye clinic for my cat Basil when they were booked for weeks or months. However the understood the emergency and scheduled my cat Basil in two days to help his left eye. The doctor and the staff were wonderful. They were also very friendly. The doctor was very knowledgeable. She sent him home with two types of eyes drops and he showed great improvement in few days. He is doing great now and almost fully recovered. I highly recommend this clinic if your pet needs any eye attention. I can't thank the doctor and the staff enough for taking care of my boy.

I called here back in February/early March regarding a tumor on my dogs eye. It was taking over her entire eye and becoming infected. I was told by her primary vet that she needed to see an ophthalmologist so I reached out to NW animal eye specialist trying to get an appointment and they told me they wouldn’t be able to see her until the end of April. I emailed them a picture of her eye explaining how bad it was and that it was somewhat of an emergency that couldn’t wait for 2 more months. I was literally crying on the phone begging them to see my dog sooner and the lady on the phone argued with me and even raised her voice at me saying " the doctor did look at the photos and she does NOT think it’s an emergency" Thankfully I found somewhere who immediately prescribed her the steroid pills and antibiotics she needed and we were able to save my dogs eye. I can’t imagine what would have happened if I had waited 2 more months like they told me to do.

You will not meet a more caring and dedicated medical staff anywhere else! My cat had eye issues for more than a year. He’d been to his regular clinic 5 times and tried countless medications. On the last visit, I requested a referral to a specialist even though they told me there wasn’t much that could be done. Turns out, a specialist was exactly what was needed to properly treat the issue. Yes, specialized care is pricey and yes it is worth it.
