How to Save Money at Animal Health Care Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was able to get in for an appointment quickly (two days from requested!) and they were very upfront with costs and what my pet needed. They checked on me multiple times and ensured that my pet was doing well with them. We scheduled follow up appointments and I am happy to continue to have them as my primary vet moving forward!

This place has the best service of all of the vets I have been to in my life time the employees are all friendly and go above and beyond every time and they care for the customer and the pet. 10/10 I would point anyone one I know to here as they care as much as I do about my pets. Jen a super star employee that I can point out as just one of the examples of how awesome the team is there.

As a first time puppy owner, bringing my puppy to AHCC was probably one of the best decisions I could have made. They've given me all the suggestions in raising my pup the most healthy way- they showed me how to clean her ears and brush her teeth. Dr. Wood and the nurses are always so kind and considerate. After every visit, they make sure to check in a day or 2 after to make sure my pup was doing well after her vaccinations. They kindly answer every question I have and give me the best reassurance that I am doing the right things. I strongly suggest them to any new puppy owners!

WARNING!!! I Caution you about this fake and phoney veterinarian and her unprofessional team of amateurs. These people presented me with a $2100 bill for unnecessary treatments for issues that did not exist. Not only was I a victim of fraud but my cat was nearly put through some trauma that was clearly not expected by a so called professional of 30 years experiences as a vet. I felt like I was at a used car lot negotiating a sale price on a car I didn’t even want. The “nurse” gave me an attitude and I had to demand my cat be returned to me and I was forced to go to another clinic the next day totally distraught that my cat had all these terrible problems. Come to find out there was nothing wrong with him he just needed his vaccines updated. Please DO NOT support this woman’s fake business. Being treated for illnesses that your pet doesn’t have could kill them and your pocketbook. A million thanks to seattle humane and the volunteers at donecoye pet clinic for the kind and compassionate care my cat received. DO YOUR RESEARCH before choosing a vet. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Upcharges, Upcharges Upcharges! The quote on the phone says one thing then you get there to pick up and you get additional charges that send your bill through the roof. Things like waste disposal for products used, an additional charge for the rabies vaccine (on top of the agreed upon fee), flea bomb. Our cat didn't even have fleas! We never got called to approve the flea treatment. They gave us a total time of two hours to complete services, it ended up being five! Their excuses were that they had an animal escape and that the vet kept forgetting to fill out our pet's chart. Never again! To the groomer, you always do a great job but find a better place to work out of, please!
