How to Save Money at Pets and Vets Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Having been a loyal client at Pets + Vets Animal Hospital in South Riding for the last five years, I can confidently say that their consistent excellence in pet care is unmatched. My continued trust in their services speaks volumes about the reliability and quality of care they provide. I couldn't be more impressed with the level of care and attention to detail provided by their team and they genuinely cared about the well-being of my dog Bella. The veterinarians and staff were not only highly knowledgeable but also incredibly patient and attentive. They took the time to thoroughly examine Bella, listen to my concerns, and answer all of my questions with great patience and expertise. They treated my dog with the same love and attention that I do, and that's something that truly warms the heart of any pet owner. In summary, I highly recommend Pets + Vets Animal Hospital to anyone in need of exceptional veterinary care for their furry family members. Their attention to detail, reasonable pricing, and compassionate approach make them a top choice for pet owners seeking the best care for their beloved pets. Thanks, Ashish

We have a 7 yr old beagle and have been visiting this clinic since its opening; and have been nothing but happy and satisfied with the quality of service and personal attention received during all our visits. It's a local family owned clinic, fees/prices are fair, and the doctor and her staff have always been very professional and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this clinic !

We’ve been bringing our 130 lbs, 8year old Great Dane to Pets and Vets for about 4 years. They staff and Dr.Vanama are attentive to my dog, personable and treat our dog well. Their services are affordable compared to the other big chains in the area. Considering our giant dog, test and dosage of meds becomes expensive, we find Pets and Vets very affordable.

I would honestly go to ANY other vet than this place and if you do choose to go here have them review what they plan on doing with your pet with prices and make a decision then. I walked in to get my dog a few shots to be boarded up, and walked out with a 620 dollar bill. Every shot was overpriced. They charged me 95 just to tell me my dog could lose 2 or 3 pounds. Then I asked them after seeing the bill if there is anything that doesn't need to be done today. They said nope everything is mandatory and that they proactively charged me 79 dollars for a fecal test I have to collect at home. They wouldn't refund me the 79 but would give me store credit. Sooooo with that being said I will not come back to this vet and this place will have you leave feeling like you just got scammed

I take my fur baby ranger to Dr. Vanama and have for years. I couldn't be happier with the service and care she provides. From the moment we walked into the clinic, we were greeted with a warm smile and friendly attitude from the staff. Dr. Vanama takes the time to listen to my concerns and was incredibly patient and thorough in her examination. She explained everything in detail and made sure I understood all of my options before making any decisions. What really impressed me was her genuine love for animals and her dedication to providing the best possible care for them. She treated my pet with the same love and attention she would her own and went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable and well taken care of. Overall, I cannot recommend Dr. Vanama and her team enough. They are truly passionate about what they do and it shows in everything they do. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated veterinarian, look no further than Dr. Vanama. Thank you for everything!
