How to Save Money at Aldie Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am appalled and outraged by the experience we had with Dr. Nandita Fernandez. Her abysmal treatment of my gentle dog was completely unacceptable! She was apprehensive of him for no apparent reason and utterly incompetent, refusing to properly examine or vaccinate him. Dr. Fernandez point-blank refused to check his injured paw and instead had me open his mouth so she could briefly glimpse at his teeth while standing as far away as possible, that was her definition of an “annual exam.” She made no effort whatsoever to interact with him in a caring manner. It took Dr. Fernandez three attempts just to administer one subcutaneous vaccine, jumping away in fright each time, she barely managed to insert the needle. When my dog understandably turned his head in discomfort from her miserable efforts of administering the vaccine, she reacted like he was a vicious creature ready to attack, which could not be further from the truth. It’s natural reaction to turn your head if someone stabs you with a needle. The poor guy never growled, snarled, showed teeth or even the slightest bit of aggression. In his 7 years and multiple vet visits no other doctor has ever had any difficulty administering him a vaccine. Her repeated insinuations that he was dangerous were offensive and completely preposterous as he didn’t display any behavior to cause fear or concern. Dr. Fernandez was unprofessional, negligent and utterly failed in her duties as a veterinarian. No animal should suffer such incompetence. I’m disappointed and upset that I even allowed her to make 3 miserable attempts at administering one vaccine. I should’ve requested another provider as soon as she walked in the room with a towel and a cone and said “We have limited minutes, let’s not have injuries during this visit” It made no sense, no other vet had ever brought those items or implied any concern regarding his behavior. The dog has zero history of aggression, her behavior was judgmental and disgusting! I urge others to avoid her at all costs, as she clearly lacks the skills and temperament to properly treat pets. I urge the facility to look into this matter and not allow her to treat dogs until she receives much needed training! In contrast, Dr. Woodworth was beyond amazing. She came in to the room confident, and immediately put my dog at ease. She had no qualms about properly examining and caring for him. She was petting him, rubbing his ears, and was so gentle with him and most importantly non-judgemental. She gave him two vaccines in less than a minute, she took time to administer a proper exam, listened to his heart, checked his teeth, examined his paw, she was able to address all our concerns and provide exemplary care for our gentle baby. Dr. Woodworth is a true professional who clearly has the skills and attitude to provide excellent veterinary care. I cannot speak highly enough of her handling of the situation after the trauma caused by Dr. Fernandez's shocking incompetence. Dr. Woodworth restored my faith that compassionate and thoughtful vets do exist at this clinic. I wholeheartedly recommend her services. The one star is strictly for the first half of the visit and experience related to the terrible experience with Dr. Fernandez.

Good service. The vet and assistant took time to talk through our dog's GI issues.

I've been taking the family furry one to Aldie Vet for the past 9 years and they have taken excellent care of her. Their staff are very professional and the medical professionals provide Astro the cat top notch medical attention.

I am really blown away with Aldie Vet, in the best way! Their knowledge, kindness, and patience are incomparable to previous vets I have gone to. Our vet, Dr. Pattie, really takes the time to thoroughly explain issues and resolutions to help us fully understand. They also encourage happy visits, which are free visits to the front desk to help ease the anxiety of our pets for future doctor's visits. The front desk staff are also very sweet and warm, which is always a plus.

Best vet we have ever taken our fur babies too! You guys are always so kind and patient with our crazy dogs, and its very clear that you all genuinely care. We have never had anything close to a negative experience. (We tell Pickles that he gets to go see his girlfriends whenever we bring him in!) Thank you for all your hard work to keep our pets happy and healthy.
