How to Save Money at Tally Oaks Veterinary Service

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wouldn’t go anywhere else! As a “mom” of 3 corgis I wouldn’t trust my pups health to anyone but Dr. W and her fabulous team! I moved to Tally Oaks after talking to a neighbor about where she takes her corgi. I am so happy I did! Dr W. Is the best! She LOVES animals and puts their needs first, including using calming scented oils and involving the “parent” in recovery from sedatives after surgical procedures. I also can’t say enough about her staff either. My dogs used to be scared to go to the vet but now they look forward to visiting with everyone at Tally Oaks 😄

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about the Tally Oaks Veterinary team. I searched for a good bit for a vet office I was comfortable with a s a young, single dog momma of a rescue Boxer boy. They have addressed each issue that has arisen with my dog with such grace and kindness towards him and me. Recently, I was dog sitting two senior dogs & one ended having an unavoidable emergency under my care. The Tally Oaks team allowed me to bring her in and talked with me & the owners (via phone) about our options and made all three of us humans & the dog feel so well taken care of. As long as I am in the area, they will be my people!

I love the truly personal experience you get at Tally Oaks and how Dr Woerner is so absolutely and completely thorough. I had a rescue kitten who was suffering from a prolonged battle of worms and Dr W spent an incredible amount of time diagnosing multiple types of worms (I won't go in to details but it didn't look pleasant!) and as a result little Penny was treated with the correct medicines and finally started feeling better. It's a wonderful Dr, staff and practice!!

We were going through an extremely difficult time with our dog of 15 years, who became very sick. Our normal Vet in round hill of many years unfortunately showed no compassion for us and couldn't help us with a last minute evaluation. After scrambling and calling over 10 area vets/ emergency services with no luck on last minute appointments, we came across the Tally Oaks listing. 5 seconds into the call I could tell that Tania genuinely cared about my situation and my dog. She was able to recommend something right away to try and help, as well as squeeze in an evaluation. Unfortunately, the evaluation and blood work led to bad news for my dog, but Tania and staff showed us so much compassion and made the tough next steps as easy as they could for us. I only wish we had found Tally Oaks before it got to that step. Thanks you Tania and all of the staff at Tally Oaks.

Molly and Tiny Cat are both adopted animals. Tanya and assistant treated them both with tenderness and gave me important instructions to follow, along with samples of products for me to try. I love having my vet close to my home and the personal/professional attention that is always provided at Tally Oaks Veterinary Services.
