How to Save Money at Animal Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We came in the other night with my 15 year old tabby Tigger. He was very sick and the staff here was on top of it. They were the very best from the Tech who came out and got him immediately to the Doctor who explained everything perfectly and gave us options for his treatment down to the receptionist who sat there at 930 at night and talked to me while I was rambling through the nerves. Thanks to them and their quick action, diagnosis and compassion I now have my loving vibrate fuzzy man back. This is the 2nd time in 15 years they have save my fuzzy child. We can not express to you how much this ment to us. We are so grateful.

We recently had to put our dog down and this place was so kind and so non invasive during the process. They gave us space and time to make a decision and time with our animal. They took time to send us a condolences card and were very respectful when calling to let us know our boy was ready to be picked up! The staff is so friendly and so caring! 100% trust this place and the staff here! High recommend!!!

They are amazing, we have them as emergency back up when our regular vet is unavailable. Very compassionate and good prices back in 2021, here today unsure prices just yet, but from what I hear from the conversations around, sounds the same. Glad I can sit in lobby again, they keep it a peaceful atmosphere. Also I love this on the wall they are very respectful of the families and pets.

I will NEVER return to this place! I brought my puppy in for diarrhea and losing weight fast, I was asked by the assistant bc I NEVER saw a vet in the hour and a half of being there!, if I wanted them to run test on my puppy as if I was the vet. No recommendation whatsoever after which I was given generic meds and told to come back! I received no diagnosis during this visit. I left paying $100 plus dollars and my puppy still has a serious issue and no plan other then they will sedate him when he comes back bc allegedly he broke out of the muzzle they had on him and made a assistant fall. All I heard was my puppy let out a high squeal only to be told to wasn’t him! FYI the previous visit here I waited in a room over a hour as well. If they don’t have enough vets or experienced personnel to accommodate the patients they should not take more clinics. Also I was the only one there upon arrival so there was no line!!

I have been in a couple times now for emergency and routine visits and have met a couple of Drs for the first time- have been very impressed with the knowledge, patience and respect for myself and my dogs from all the staff. I had to have 2 dogs put to sleep and all the staff was sensitive to the difficulty of those situations and I was personally very thankful for their time and understanding…..Halo was the very first Chi puppy I bred and she was a one of a kind beautiful little soul….❤️
