How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Midway Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

The team at Midway are absolutely the best. Dr. Hodges, Dr. Moore, and Dr. Starke all take incredible care to make small animals feel as safe and comfortable as possible. My bun Nimbus had a tooth root abscess, and the team worked together to decide the best course of treatment. Extensive communication during the entire process too. Nimbus is now over 2 months post-op, and she is better than ever! She eats a lot more and is a lot more playful, and after her summer shed, her fur is back to normal. She also just turned 6 years old the other day! Thank you to the Midway team and especially Dr. Hodges

This vet has shown me nothing but kindness in a very sad time for me and my pets. Took one of my sweet baby rats to them after she started going downhill all of a sudden. The nurses and doctors were so sweet to her, and did everything they could to find the issue and ease her pain. Unfortunately she did end up passing a few days later, but that's the sad thing about rats, they are just fragile. Got a letter from the doctor and the staff today and it made me cry, I'm so glad others got to meet my little Doodle bug while she was alive, thank you all for everything.

I've used this place twice. We received a gecko as a rehome and upon inspection of the baby we noticed a good size bump on her stomach. We took her to get examined by the vet and it turned out she had a hernia. We opted to operate and unfortunately she didn't make it. They kept us in the loop the whole time. The second time I found a wild bird in the road who refused to move. I took him there as a last resort as no rescue called me back. They happily took the baby back, did a quick examination to insure he wasn't truly injured. They then called a rescue close with them. Unfortunately they were closing and the rescue wouldn't make it in time, i offered to take the baby to them. By time i got to the rescue they were all set up with all the information from the vet! Great communication!

The vet and staff were very helpful and friendly. They handled my parakeet with care and were very gentle with him. The vet and staff explained the procedures and care he needed thoroughly. We are all very grateful, including Sunshine, who is healing from an injury!

Absolutely LOVE the staff and doctors at Midway! We haven't had the greatest luck with vets in the last 12 years---all the ones we liked kept moving out of the area. And we have dogs, semi-aquatic turtles, and cats. Dr. Starke is absolutely awesome with exotic pets. He was really able to set me at ease when I worried that one of my turtles was sick. I will never go to another exotic vet unless he moves far away. And Dr. Miller has helped us with a difficult cancer diagnosis and end of life decision after our previous vet left us more confused (and broke) than ever when our elderly rescue cat ended up taking a down turn. She has also since cared for our new rescue, and really put us at ease about some dental issues the new cat has. Likewise, the whole staff is very upfront about cost of care, treatment options, etc. They lay out what should be done now, what can wait, give you heads' up on upcoming specials they will have if work needs to be done, and provide multiple options for things that might be on the pricier side. Their prices and charges are also super! I was especially elated to learn the vet bill for an insurance physical for our new cat last week was about $250 LESS than it would have been with our previous vet to get the physical, blood work and other tests, vaccinations, etc.! Midway is a drive for us, but it's 100% worth it.
