How to Save Money at Chenault Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

. The staff at Chenault veterinary hospital always takes great care of their furry patients and ensures that they look and feel their best. It's wonderful to see how happy and confident my grandmother's puppy is after her grooming session. I'm sure she'll be strutting her stuff and showing off her new look to everyone she meets. Thanks to Chenault veterinary hospital for always providing top-notch care and making our furry friends feel special!

Our Belgian Malinois, Nitro, has been under the care of Dr. Kellar-Brown for the past two years now and we could not be more pleased with the care he has received. Everyone from the front office staff, to Morgan, Nitro's favorite veterinary technician, to Dr. Kellar-Brown is committed to providing an exceptional experience for Nitro and his parents. We are so grateful!

Took my cat for his 1st visit. Staff is very nice and helpful. My cat did good with Vet McKercher and tech. He got weighed, examined, nails trimmed and a shot. My cat is happy to be home. The vet understood my cat. Was patient with him. Great place to take your fur-baby for health needs.

Quality veterinary care for our beloved pets. Our vet is Dr. Kellar, and imho, she’s great with my babies. I have been to more than one appointment with Dr. Kellar where, despite how incredibly busy she and her vet techs are, Dr. Kellar begins each visit by greeting my pets by their names. Personally, I appreciate this detail, it’s my beloved babies they are treating, not me. And, after practically each appointment, Dr. Kellar and her technicians take a few seconds to sit on the exam room floor cross-legged to let my babies head bang into their shoulders or bodies, allowing my pets to shower them with tons of kisses, and receive scratches, cuddles and treats. This is how we are with our pets in our own home every day. It shows a lot that Dr. Kellar, her technicians and even the front office staff will sit on the floor with our pets and interact with them the way we do in our own homes. I ask a fair amount of questions about my pups’ health, if appropriate. Dr. Kellar takes time to answer my questions and provide a bit of information for me to fully understand how I can best address my pets’ needs (if applicable). Thank you Dr. Kellar, Morgan, Marie and Marcus, to name a few, for loving our babies as if they were your own when we visit you. We wouldn’t want it any other way.

Traveller loves coming to Chenault Veterinary Hospital and so do I. I've been coming here over 20 years and I wouldn't dream of taking my dogs anywhere else. Everything about this place is perfect. Dr. Chenault and very capable vet tech Mandy (don't let her small size fool you; she can handle the craziest of dogs) are so professional, kind and caring. So sympathetic to me when I had to put my last dog down. Never ever have they steered me wrong with bad advise, and I feel they are not out to make a buck but to do what's best for my dog. The office staff is professional, cheerful and polite, not to mention very efficient. I have never had a bad experience here. Also, I have boarded a couple of my dogs, as well as used the pool and those are wonderful facilities.
