How to Save Money at Silver Creek Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our dog, Duke, was a patient here over the years when visiting from out of town. The doctors always seemed to catch the cracked tooth, or other missed issue, that our vet back east missed. When the time came for in home final care services, timing seemed to align with being in Park City and we chose Silver Creek. Ultimately very respectful and considerate, we’re thankful for their process.

Very disappointed in Silver Creek… My wife and I have been bringing our dogs to Silver Creek Animal Hospital for over 15 years. When our first dog had to be put down, I was impressed with their kindness, understanding and empathy. That was roughly in 2012. Fast forward to 2023 and our dog was sick, and at the end of her life. She had taken a marked turn for the worse, and we called to get an appointment. Nothing available for three weeks... BUT, if we were willing to pay an extra $150, they could squeeze us in right away. Hmmm. To me, "nothing available" means exactly that. If they can squeeze you in for an extra $150, couldn’t they do that without an upcharge? Others may feel differently, but my moral compass is offended. We’ve been loyal customers for north of 15 years and have spent thousands of dollars at Silver Creek. That apparently means nothing. I would think a veterinarian would be concerned about an animal’s well being and comfort, but apparently that too is secondary to extracting extra money from the pet’s owners. “Actions speak louder than words” is often quoted, and I think there’s truth in that. Regardless of what Silver Creek says, they seem to be more focused on increasing their revenue than on any loyalty to their customers: human or animal. If/when we get another dog I think we’ll be going elsewhere for our veterinary needs.

I had absolutely the worst pet care I've ever experienced at this place, I brought my dog in for vomiting, and the vet didn't even touch him. He never even looked at him. I had photos of what my dog was vomiting up, and the vet refused to look at them until the next day when I had to bring my dog back in for x-rays because he was still ill and my mother showed him the same pictures. I tried to show him the day before. At that point, he acknowledged it and came to the conclusion that some thing he saw those pictures was probably causing my dogs illness. He could've save my dog, the undue stress of having to have x-rays done and saved me couple hundred dollars if you would've just looked at the pictures and done a physical exam that we paid for the day before

Last summer our 12 years old Yorkshire started showing sever symptoms of itching and anxiety. Took him to Olympus Cove Vet clinic and had the worst experience ever with them . I happened to meet Elisha and shared Max’s suffering and my heartbreak of feeling helpless. She suggested to take him to Silver Creek Clinic. We went there even though it was a long drive . Dr. Evan Caplis treated him as a patient ❤️and prescribed him what he needed. Gave it a week and Everything is going great. Way to go Elisha, Dr. Caplis and the staff. Thank you . Max

When we had to put my 12 year old setter down, it was devastating. We couldn't have asked for a better place to have had to perform this difficult task. The vet was personable, empathetic, kind, encouraging, and his bedside manner was impeccable. I also feel like the staff genuinely care about your pets. The best part of all of this was that a personal donation was made in my dog's honor to help homeless pets. They sent us a sympathy card informing us of the donation. Thank you SCAC!
