How to Save Money at Bark City Veterinary Specialists & Emergency

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The doctors at Bark City Veterinary are truly skilled specialists. When you call them, an actual person answers the phone and they are very nice, caring and helpful. Almost a year ago when several other veterinarians were unable to figure out what was causing my dog’s abnormal gait, Dr. Stephen Jones was able to find the cause on the first visit. He was very kind, patient, and able to explain the condition in detail, as well as the prognosis for the future. Recently my dog developed tendinopathy in his shoulders. I had so many questions about treatment options and next steps. I emailed Dr. Jones and he called me the very next morning! He patiently answered all my questions and helped me plan the appropriate treatment for my dog. Every experience I have had with Bark City Veterinary has been impressive and I highly recommend them if you are looking for the best care for your pets.

As a veterinarian of nearly 30 years, I really researched facilities and surgeons when my personal dog needed cruciate repair. Bark City has incredible equipment and Dr. Jones an impressive background. I was very impressed by my dog Filbert's care there. The staff was kind and well trained. Dr. Jones went over and above to accommodate us. He let me watch the surgery and he is an incredibly gifted surgeon. It is early days for Filbert's recovery, but I feel they gave him the best chance possible to be a happy active dog again. Highly recommend. It's worth the cost to get the best.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND-Outstanding vet and specialty clinic. Dr. Jones and his staff are so kind, thoughtful and HIGHLY knowledgeable and skilled. I actually live in San Diego, CA and chose to come to Dr. Jones and his clinic based on his experience, credentials, trainings and "patient" results. Don't hesitate to go at all, the whole team is wonderful. -answers phone quickly and gets the answer for you. -caring staff, genuinely cares about our pets! -quick to get appointments, understands possibly the need to bump you up to a sooner day and time depending on your pets condition and needs -staff stayed overtime to fix my puppy! He had hip/femur surgery (FHO). -overnight nurses and techs to keep your babies safe and recovering -doctors on call 24/7 -called to give me updates before, during, and after surgery -less expensive for me being in CA, price is very fair in comparison to local vets there as well. THANK YOU Dr. Jones, Cameron, Page, Jessica, Alexa, Dr. Sadowitz, Landon Sorry if I missed someone, again, I can't thank you enough for helping my lil guy Jack (frenchie mix)

My 1 year old dog needed surgery on her shoulder and I’m so grateful I had access to such amazing specialists and medical care. A friend recommended Dr. Jones to us and his expertise and passion for what he’s doing is clear. I cannot recommend Bark City and Dr. Jones enough!

I have paid over 6k+ to Bark City. Each time a talk to the receptionist , he informs me on things needed to schedule an appointment. The lady I just talked to today was mean and not understanding at all. When I did take one of my previous dogs for surgery I waited hours up in Park City only to find out they didn't even start the scan (Live in Sandy) I understand they are new but honestly I am sick of calling and getting a different story from each receptionist, then waiting hours on end with no update.
