How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I've been growing dissatisfied with Banfield. I will have to stick with it because of the affordability of wellness care, and they do a great job at it. But when my cat got a skin condition that turned out to be allergies, they were not able to treat it well. They wanted to refer me to a specialized dermatologist vet after a few appts. I took him to a private vet practice (Utah Veterinary Hospital in American Fork) and they quickly took care of the problem. Also, I feel like Banfield is focusing more on quantity than quality. For example, I understand having to drop off my pets for the entire day when they have dental cleaning or wellness exams to take care of. But if they just need one vaccine or I need to treat an illness like the skin condition mentioned previously, they still want me to drop off my pet. I want a quick appt with the vet, not having my pet be stressed the entire day inside an uncomfortable crate just because that way it seems like they can see more pets a day. It wasn't like that in the past, but it has become that way because of their affordability. So, to me, they are great for wellness care, and it is well worth it. But, they are not good at treating the pet if health issues appear. So, I will go there for routine care, and in the case of my pets developing any condition, I will take them to a vet I trust.

We’ve taken our cat Obi here for about a year. They are usually pretty busy so it helps to call ahead of time. The vet that he had both times was so nice, I wish I remembered her name! The vet tech was also so great, she was a pretty girl with dark hair. They are very efficient, great with explaining things, and are not overly pushy. They will recommend the pet insurance deal, and you can get it if you want, but you don’t have to. The vet answered all of my questions and helped fill a sedative prescription for us since we are leaving on a long trip soon. Thanks Banfield!

Listened to my concerns and took them seriously. They were very nice to me during a difficult time with my pet. The only downside is the price but that’s the same with vets anywhere.

The vets and techs are incredibly helpful! My pup is a little much sometimes, and they're really patient with her nerves. I always get a call from the vet to go over all the details after her dental cleanings, and I feel confident she's being taken care of well! Love the thoughtfulness and attentiveness!! Keep up the amazing work! Bonus pic of my pup post dental cleaning, just starting to wake up💓 I will say, I try really hard to be friendly to the front desk staff, and I get mixed interactions. There are a few front desk staff who have been snappy, rude, or made unnecessarily snarky comments about me or my dog. At my dogs first dental cleaning, I got snapped at for not getting her weight before signing in (I was told not to give her a treat and she wouldn't stand on the scale without one). The girl got upset at me and told me I needed to use a treat to get my dog on the scale and weighed. So, the next appointment, I walked in and used one treat to get my dog on the scale and weighed. Again, I got snapped at my the front desk girl and then asked over and over (in a very cruel tone) if I'd been feeding my dog all morning 🙄 Anyways, both times were pretty unnecessary, especially because I was trying so hard to be kind, express thanks for everything they helped me with, etc., and the whole time they were both rude. Overall, it was unprofessional and scary. Could use some training on customer service and attitude.

Took my daughters Lab for an annual checkup. It was an easy sign in and everyone was very nice. Great service, friendly, knowledgeable and organized staff.
