How to Save Money at Mountain View Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my dog in because she needed a refill on her heartworm meds. We are traveling and will be on the road for the next year. I told the tech this and the reason for our visit. We then told them we were going to send the prescription to chewy pharmacy. They said that was fine and never said anything else. Well fast forward, I ordered the heartworm meds from chewy and the vet came up in their system as a vet office. I chose them and chewy sent it to them for approval. No calls from the clinic, nothing. Five days pass, I get a call from Chewy they said they never heard from the vet. I called the vet they told me they only do paper scripts. I said well I'm in a completely different state, can you email, fax or mail me a prescription? They said no because of scams?! I'm like you saw my dog and did the heartworm test. I called chewy back and told them, they said if the vet could call them and just say it was approved they could fill it. The vet said no. I was shocked because this was going on almost 2-3 weeks. Eventually the vet told me they have a solution, buy the heartworm meds through them, money grab or the better solution take my dog back to another vet and have them call Mountain View so they can say the test was negative. So I have to pay twice for a vet visit when you could have just called Chewy the first time weeks ago? About my actual appointment, the vet came in spent maybe 5 minutes with my dog. She spoke to me like I was a child when I was telling her about the supplements I had my dog on, like I have had her for 6 years, animals my whole life and we have been to plenty of vets before you, all have never spoke to me the way she did, so rude and didn't even complete the visit because I still had questions and she didn't fully examine my dog. I had to tell the tech that there were still somethings I wanted looked at since I'm here paying for your time. Also my dog has had a broken tooth since she was a puppy, before I adopted her, and the vet kept telling me about how she needs a cap and how they would refer her out. I have been to at least 5 other vets since owning her and I have never ever been told that. After I had to take my other dog to the vet for other reasons and told them about the situation at this so called vet clinic and they said oh yeah that is a money grab because they get more from you buying meds from them.

I was nervous for my dog to have surgery and Mountain View Animal Clinic eased my nerves from the very start. Their staff is kind and patient and thorough. They are gentle and friendly. I felt much better after our pre-op appointment. The Vet took his time with us and explained everything and answered all of our questions and I didn’t feel rushed at all. They have taken great care of our dog and we will definitely be bringing her there from now on. Thank you Mountain View.

Must recommend, we got scheduled quickly as I needed follow-up after ER for my kitty cat. All staff including the veterinarian is amazing, very friendly and helpful. Before anything the veterinarian explained me everything even without me asking any questions. The technician was very nice and even my cat was being mean, she was patient and kind. Happy to sign my kitty cat into their hands.

I was sad to find out that Mountain View Animal Clinic is more focused on money than on the well-being of its patients. I always took my two cats to the clinic and they were usually okay, nothing great, but okay. Last month (02/09/23) my cat was treated for a lower urinary tract disease, but she didn't get better, so I called again on 03/13 to know what else to do when I was informed that I needed to pay for a total new visit because it was passed the 30 days. However, I was never told that she needed to be seen again within 30 days, or any note on how to move forward. I don't like to write reviews like this, but the careless customer service was upsetting enough to make me do it. I will definitely bring my business somewhere else.
