How to Save Money at Animal Clinics Of The Woodlands - Cochran's Crossing

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been bringing my various critters to ACoCC since 2001 or so (RIP Wolf & Killer). For the most part, I’ve had very positive experiences. Today, not so much. Took my baby 🐶 Lucky in for a rabies shot. The tech, Alissa (Elisa? Alyssa?), stated because he was a few days late, it would have to be the 1y versus the 3y vaccine. Fine, but I wanted to know which vaccination date that was dating from, as he’d had overlapping vaccines when I first got him as a stray. So I asked Alissa/Elisa/Alyssa, “is that based on the date of your vaccine or…” She responded yes. I stated, in these exact words, “Please allow me to finish my question.” I tried again, and she cut me off again. Again, in these exact words, “Please allow me to finish my question.” At this point she stated, with tone and attitude: “I’ll get someone ELSE to come talk to you.” As if her refusal to let me complete a single question without interrupting me was somehow a failing on my part. The next tech, Allie, was great. Like Alissa, she jumped in with an affirmative answer before I was midway through my single question, but when I said “please allow me to finish my question,” she actually did. She let me finish my question, and she listened. When I got Lucky as a stray about a year ago, I’d taken him to two different vets, and thought he may have had overlapping shots, so my question was “Is that based on your (ACoCC’s) vaccination date, or on Pine Forest’s (another vet), or (yet another vet)?” I’d sent the other vets’ records (months ago, May 2025, I think). Allie heard and understood my question, which sought to confirm whether the date used was ACoCC’s, or that of one of the other two vets. She went and checked the records and came back and gave me an informed answer. That didn’t need to be hard, and it didn’t need to be condescending and insulting (as Alissa/Elisa/Alysa made it). One of the most important qualities vet customers (any customer of any good or service) needs is to be heard, listened to. That Alissa/Alyssa/Elisa felt so comfortable refusing to allow me to ask ONE complete question without interruption, then flouncing out, is something that ought to be looked into. S. Perry, 12.19.25

Dr. Giordano & her team do not compare to any vets I’ve ever been to! They have saved my dog, but also take care of him regularly when he gets ear infections, etc. and then they’re also great with my easy dog that never has any problems! I also love Doreen at the front desk of Cochrane Crossing location. She’s the best.

We’ve been taking our 4 dogs to Animal Clinics of The Woodlands for many years. They are all wonderful doctors and have a remarkable staff. They manage to fit us in quickly every single time we call with an ear infection or whatever issues we may be having on any given day. They are all so kind and make us feel like they love our dogs as much as we do.

We’ve been bringing our dog to Dr. Brannon and her team for the past two years since we moved to The Woodlands, and thanks to their exceptional care, we have a healthy, happy dog. As he got older, his condition became more complex, but Dr. Brannon’s expertise and thoughtful recommendations have made all the difference. Every time we visit, the staff is genuinely excited to see him, creating a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. We are so grateful to Dr. Brannon and her team for their ongoing care!

Absolutely the very best! My pets have been seeing Dr. Blair for many years, and they have always provided the best veterinary care. I called for an emergency appointment on Dec. 23, 2024. I was there in 30 minutes, and my senior dog was taken care of immediately. X-rays were taken and options were given for her care. A huge relief during the busy holiday season. I have been to all three of their locations, have used others vets there if Dr. Blair was not available, and from the front staff, the vet techs, and all veterinarians, I have always, always been pleased with their service.
