How to Save Money at Barks + Bliss Veterinary Wellness

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Update: continuing to use Barks and Bliss are primary care providers due to consistently good to great service and compassion. Older: First visit was very good. Met by a compassionate and understanding staff that takes a gentle approach to animal care. What I liked most about the visit what their unending patience to allow my fur-baby to warm up to them in a time and space that was comfortable for my beloved pet. The next item I found remarkable was the a availability and breadth of services for animal care, to include Oncology and Sonograms. I'm am optimistic that subsequent visits will be just are caring and gentle.

I had such a great experience at Barks + Bliss! They have a cat specific exam room that was so cozy and clean. My cat was able to walk around and explore which seemed to make him much more comfortable before his exam. Natasha was so caring and gentle with my skeptical cat. Dr. Brown was so kind, gentle, and explained everything she did and recommended. I could not have asked for a better experience!

I drive from close to Waco to come to Barks and Bliss. I can honestly say that this is the best veterinary office we have ever been to. Not only are they compassionate and kind, the staff here always goes above and beyond when taking care of my boys. Our sweet Noodle and I were there every week for blood work amid his cancer and autoimmune disease treatment and they not only supported and cared for him, they cared for me and my family and even after he went to the rainbow bridge. They handle your pets with care, take their time to ensure your pet feels safe, that you feel comfortable and safe, and that they answer your questions. I have never met a group of such kind, compassionate professionals. Dr. Brown and Dr. Reeve are amazing and even though I asked the same question a million times - they never made me feel stupid. If they are running behind it is because some pet probably came in with an emergency and needed immediate attention (some day that may be your precious baby) - they do a great job at communicating AND you and your pet will also have whatever time you need dedicated to you. I don't think I'll ever be able to thank Dr. Brown, Dr. Reeve and the staff at Barks and Bliss enough for the care and attention they give our pets, and the kindness and understanding they give to us humans. Would give 10 stars if I could.

We had a great first time experience at Barks + Bliss. We took a new dog in who isn't leashed trained and got loose. Two of the staff, a good Samaritan and I chased the dog all over, across the street and through all the construction. The two staff ladies finally got him. I was so afraid he was going to get run over and/or be lost forever. I'm so grateful for the staff, they definitely went above and beyond! Thank you Dr. Reeve, the vet tech and other staff for all you did! We will be back.

I was referred to Dr. Brown from (Bark + Bliss Veterinary Wellness), from my dog Veterinary to do an Ultra Sound and Complete Abdomen examination. I was very grateful and thankful for their great customer service and taking care of my dog (Milo) during his stay at Barks + Bliss. I highly recommend them.
