How to Save Money at Kitten to Cat Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I made the switch to Kitten to Cat Hospital a few months ago and am already SO happy with my decision! I cannot say enough positive things about this clinic. The staff is incredible, the clinic is clean and pretty, the pet portal and website are so convenient and easy to use. Our initial routine visit went very well, everyone was so sweet and Dr. Mark was great. Recently, I was concerned about my kitty’s eye and I reached out to them via message in the evening after the clinic had closed. Not only did they return my message but they called me back a few minutes before they even opened. They were attentive and helpful, working to squeeze us in for an appointment wherever they could. I feel confident that I chose the right place and look forward to returning in the future. I cannot thank you guys enough! Your hard work does not go unnoticed :)

We just moved to the area and had big expectations from our previous vet and this hospital and staff exceeded our expectations. I really appreciate their different routes of treatment they talk through with you and the affordability is the same as a regular vet. I definitely feel so much better bringing my cats to a clinic that specializes in feline health and you can really feel the difference. The staff and veterinarian really do an incredible job.

I could go on for a spell about how wonderful the team at Kitten to Cat is. They are so kind, thoughtful, caring, efficient, gental, considerate, and compassionate. They are the medical professionals. However, they don't beat you over the head with it. They listen to what you have to say about the situation. They take into account how you feel, how you know your cat, and their "isms" when assessing the treatment and health of your cat in its entirety. I thank them so much for taking care of my cat for the time that we had to take her up there. It truly means the world, sun, moon and stars.

We have recently switched to this cat-only practice and have been very pleased. One of our cats has been a "frequent flyer" patient due to chronic allergies, and we appreciate the care and understanding shown by Dr. Mark and all of the staff toward our fur baby, who is stressed and not the easiest to deal with! He improves within 24 hours every time we take him, and I very much appreciate that there are no barking dogs or other non-felines sharing the space. He's not currently looking like this glamour shot but he'll get there again!

Wonderful place for a healthy cat visit. However, after being an established patient. Both times I called with N emergency: 1) bee sting and 2) my poor Ragdoll was so sick one Friday morning… “They were booked” and would NOT work him in an emergency, even though he was their established patient. Left stranded with a very sick cat that Friday morning recently, when they were “booked” I took him to our local vet. Took him in twice. He was misdiagnosed and died within 2 days. Could Kitten to Cat have saved him? We will never know. This is the second emergency I had during business hours and they refused care both times. Now my 4 year old Ragdoll is gone. Don’t establish yourself with this vet, without having a backup office to take your cat or kitten to. Disgraceful.
