How to Save Money at Southwest Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dr. Foltyn is truly one of a kind. From the very first appointment, she showed genuine care, compassion, and a level of expertise that instantly put me at ease. She took the time to explain everything clearly, answered every question with patience, and treated my pet like her own. It’s rare to find a vet who has both the medical knowledge and the heart to go with it—but Dr. Foltyn has both in abundance. I left our visit feeling confident, supported, and beyond grateful to have her as part of my pet’s care team. Southwest Veterinary Center is lucky to have her, and so are we!

I am writing this months later, now that I have had time to grieve and process everything. I do not recommend this vet if you're looking for someone kind and compassionate. Long story short, my cat had to be put to sleep because he had an inoperable tumor in his throat. I was already blaming myself for not catching it sooner, and I already felt helpless having to deal with this on my own while my husband has been away for the year due to the military. When the vet delivered the news, it was 10 mins after I had dropped my cat off for X-ray and sedation. She coldly delivered his diagnosis over the phone with no compassion while I sobbed. Even when I came to pick him up after deciding to spend one last night with him at home, she did not even come out to greet me. I was literally still crying, and all they cared about was me paying the remaining $50 after a $500 deposit. It wasn't even about the amount, because I would do anything for my baby. He even moved internationally with me in my early 20s, when I was barely making anything. He was my baby for almost a decade, and it felt like we were just a transaction to them. The only reason I am even giving two stars is for the one kind vet tech there (she has glasses and blue in her hair). She was the one who returned my cat to me, explained everything during prior visits, and was well educated. The vet even had to ask her for clarification on a vaccine (my other cat needed her shots). Like you're the vet, shouldn't you know? The front staff were also incompetent, and it took two of them to figure out my payment (almost overcharged, luckily I noticed it looked off) and print the receipt/records for the first visit. They didn't even update their system, so I kept getting multiple automated messages after my cat's passing. The clinic I took my baby to sleep is actually a chain, and even the staff there was way more compassionate and empathetic. We no longer live in this area, but would not recommend it for anyone who does. And even Chewy, what you might think of as a big corporation, had enough compassion to send me flowers after his passing.

My dog ate an entire cup of Melatonin Gummies and of course for a first timer I was super nervous. As soon as I walked into the Urgent Care, I was helped by all the ladies there. They answered all my questions, helped me with my pup, and even helped with my payment process. I am absolutely amazed at how comforting and sweet these ladies were right from the very beginning. You will definitely get the help and care you need here for your sweet fur-babies. After only one visit, I 100% recommend bringing your animals here for any help needed. 🐾

Our dog was in an unexpected accident October 29. She was taken to Southwest Veterinary Center where Dr. Foltyn hooked her up to an IV for fluids and took x-rays all while making sure she was comfortable and in minimal pain. We were given a prognosis and included in all medical decisions regarding our pet. Unfortunately she had to be put down, but Dr. Foltyn walked us through what would take place. She gave us time to say our goodbyes and never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision nor did she try and make one for us. If you are looking for a veterinarian who is caring, compassionate and has your pets best interest in mind, SVC is the place to go.
